Starting Line Address: Union Train Station, 103 River St Petersburg, V.A. 23803

Packet Pickup: Please bring your race confirmation with barcode for a swift pickup process. If you're collecting someone else's packet, remember to bring a text or photocopy of their ID along with their race confirmation.
• Thursday, April 4, 2024, 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM: Lucky Road Run Shop Willow Lawn, 1601 Willow Lawn Dr., #838, Richmond, VA 23230
• Friday, April 5, 2024, 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM: Union Station, 103 River Street Petersburg, VA 23803
• Race Day, Saturday, April 6, 2024, 6:00 AM - 6:45 AM: Union Station, 103 River Petersburg VA 23803

Race Time:
• Half Marathon Start Time: 7:15 AM
• 5K Start Time: 7:30 AM The racecourse will remain open for 4 hours.

Parking: Free parking is available just 150 yards north from the start/finish line at the corner of Joseph Jenkins Roberts Street & 3rd Street. Look out for signs guiding you to the parking lot. GPS coordinates: 37°14'02.9"N 77°24'04.1"W

Drinks & Nutrition: Water and Gatorade stations will be provided at miles 2, 4, 6, 8, & 11 (with nutrition at mile 8).

Bathrooms: There will be ample restroom facilities at the Petersburg Civic Center and Union Station. Additionally, bathrooms are located for half marathon runners at miles 2, 4, and 7 on the course.

Race Start Corral: Corrals will be organized by expected finishing time, with faster runners at the front and slower runners at the back. Those running with strollers or pets must start at the rear.

The Course: The route will be clearly marked with turn signs and mile markers at each mile.

Race Results: Live results will be available at a kiosk desk near the finish line post-race. Results will also be posted online and on our page immediately following the event.

Awards: We'll be awarding top 3 overall, 1st place master, and age group awards for both the 5K and Half Marathon. The award ceremony for the 5K will take place at 8:40 AM, and for the Half Marathon at 9:45 AM. Please ensure you check results after the race as you may have qualified for an award.

Spectators: Spectators are encouraged to enjoy the civil war reenactment near the start/finish line at Pocahontas Street and Sapony Street in Pocahontas Island. Reenactments will occur at miles 0.5 and 10 for half marathon runners, as well as mile 0.5 for 5K runners.

Post-Race Food & Drinks: Join us for a post-race celebration with fresh food and beverages. Remember to have your ID handy if you plan on enjoying a beer.

Photos: Free Race photos will be available on our page and website within 2-3 days after the event.

Prepare for an immersive tour that unveils some of Petersburg VA iconic landmarks on race day. Today we are going to start posting about some of the city's historic gems that are along the racecourse.

Both Half Marathon & 5K participants will run in Pocahontas Island the 1st mile of the race. During this mile you will experience a live civil war reenactment while run past four locations on the National Register of Historic Places.

Pocahontas Island, named after the legendary Native American princess, is probably Petersburg's earliest predominantly African-American neighborhood. It is a peninsula located on the north side of the Appomattox River within the limits of Petersburg. Some of Petersburg's first enslaved black were brought here in 1732 to work in John Bolling's to***co warehouses. In 1750 the land was subdivided and named Wittontown.

It was renamed Pocahontas Island when it became a town in 1752 and became a part of Petersburg in 1784. In 1797, free blacks and slaves from the Davenport parish in Prince George County established the Sandy Beach Baptist Church in Pocahontas. They worshipped there until 1818 when the congregation moved to Gillfield. By 1800, many of Petersburg's 310 free blacks were probably residing in this integrated neighborhood, including John Jarrett and John Updike who earned their living as boatmen, fishermen and watermen.

Richard A. Stewart, who just passed away in April of 2023 was the unofficial "Mayor" of Pocahontas Island, he born on the 66-acre island in 1943. He purchased an 18th century house there in 2002 and began collecting and amassing artifacts related to Black history as well as Civil War history. By 2003, he had collected enough items to open the house as the Pocahontas Island Black History Museum. Pocahontas Island is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

There will be Pace Teams available for the Half Marathon participants. The pacers will be located in the Start Line Corral and will be holding signs with the target pace on it. The Pacers will be organized in 15-minute increments: 1:45, 2:00 hrs., 2:15 hrs., etc.

We are happy to announce that the Petersburg Half Marathon & 5K will be the host race for the 2024 NIRCA Half Marathon Road National Championship. We're looking forward to the unique opportunity in seeing colleges & universities from all NCAA divisions through our nation being represented at one event.

The National Championship for Track & Field will take place the same week at Sports Backers stadium in neighboring Richmond, V.A.
