I am a custom wedding gown designer and dressmaker with over 30 years sewing experience and 25 years apparel industry experience. I have worked for Philadelphia's most famous couturier, and as a high level fit technician in a leading plus size apparel company. I made my first wedding gown in 1991 and I have been making brides happy ever since. All of my dresses are 100% made by me from sketch to f

inishing (except for very detailed beading, where I will use other professionals). I am an expert in making beautiful, custom, spectacularly well-fitted garments, and I have a very special understanding of fit for the fuller figure. Should you want a custom wedding gown, mother of the bride/groom, prom, communion, or christening gown, please email me. And of course, since I make gowns from scratch, I am uniquely skilled in expert alterations. I specialize in the impossible, there is nothing I can't fix for you!

Happy Small Business Saturday Eve!
Looking for a unique gift that supports a local woman owned business?
As you know I am an experienced designer/seamstress with over 30 years experience. Besides offering expert alterations and custom designs for your special occasions*,
I also make memory blankets from your treasured t shirts. I've been making these blankets for nearly 15 years and what was once mostly an Etsy business has turned into a truly local endeavor with word of mouth growth!
I now have my assistant (15 year old daughter) helping me, so we have some openings for 5-6 blankets for Christmas!
This is an amazing gift for that person who has everything. We've done concert tees, travel tees, sports tees, or all combined!
Reach out to me via text 267-808-2528 and mention you're a local for $20 off!
My normal pricing is
12 $145
20 $180
25 $225
30 $250
(*I also do non special occasion alterations and repairs in January and February, with an $80 minimum)

This is a quilted piece that my mother made from scraps of fabric. It depicts my grandparents' home in Collegeville, PA. It's mostly machine made, except for a tiny detail of hand embroidery in the window- a small hanging plant.
It's positively enormous- 37" high (I didn't measure the width - close to 4 feet?)
I debated getting rid of it, but that little hand embroidery got me. I just couldn't.
So after I sat on the floor and cried a little, I hung it in my sewing/fitting studio. It wasn't easy (I had to get the step ladder, and shift the curtain wire down 2"), but there it is. Bonus: my 14 year old thinks it's the coolest thing ever.
We spent a few minutes talking about my memories of that house, about where all those scraps came from (dining room curtains, a dress she made for me, etc). Then I told her how we weren't rich growing up but my mom would make whatever dress you wanted. So much love in this piece.
Well, someone else will have to get rid of it when I'm gone.

Heres a sweet little detail of the flowers in the foreground and the treesway off in the distance.
The rest of the truck story...fast forward from 1989, when I declined acceptance to Pratt in favor of a design degree - to 2011. My wife took me and my toddler on our first camping trip near Knoebles in the middle of PA. We were on a little scenic drive (probably to try to get the baby to nap), stopping to take in the sights and snap pics. We stopped and saw this truck in a field. We all took pics (I had a real camera). I said, I'm going to paint that! But then we lost the photo disc. We could not find it! I gave up. A few years went by and I decided to sign up for a paint class anyway. We gave the search one more try, and lo, we found it! But I wasn't ready to paint the truck yet, it felt too monumental. I had to paint a "practice " painting first. A confidence painting, to prove to myself I could do it. So that's the story of the Truck. It's not my first painting after 24 years, it's the second lol. I'll share the first one soon.

As promised yesterday, I wanted to share a little more about this painting. I had been a very active and productive artist from an early age, moving into oil painting my junior year in high school. I also received rigorous art training from my teacher, Sr. Kateri. I applied and was accepted to Pratt Institute in NYC for fine arts. But my parents were concerned about the cost (no scholarships) and my living in NYC. When a generous scholarship package came in for my second love, fashion, at a school 20 min walk away, they convinced me to go there. And while I continued to paint more abstract design ideas and, of course, continued to sketch, I didn't pick up another paintbrush for 25 years...

I haven't posted art since well before the pandemic. It was tough for all of us, and in Aug 2020 I put art on hold to take care of my dying mom.
I am just getting back into it, so I thought I'd share some of my previous work.
This is The Truck, the image that inspired me to get back into painting.
I'll tell you the story over the next few posts...

January and February are my "off season" - where I occasionally take "everyday" alterations and repairs for my most frequent clients.
Here's a little snapshot of the bevy of colors and patterns that January held.
That season is over, however keep me in mind for next year!

"Cups" in a dress do not replace the support offered by a bra. If you are blessed in that department, I can add cups to your dress but they will never give you the same support as an undergarment. 😀

Ok a small delay!
The yellow underlayment was not the correct kind. The kind we needed was a special order project and wouldn't arrive until Monday! I can't have the studio out of commission for that long. An internet search turned up Bell Flooring Co, right in Northern Liberties and they had it! I drove down, got it, and installed it right over the yellow (which will function as a v***r barrier). This project will be finished by tomorrow the latest!

Progress...
Don't worry, that's not the floor, it's the particularly ugly colored underlayment.
Side note: we can't get the large cabinet out, so we have to move it around the room. It was full of art supplies and it took me two hours and about 3,000 steps to empty it and bring everything to the basement.

I had to wait to post this beauty, so the dress design could remain a secret until the wedding!
This beautiful tulle dream dress with matching upcycled veil (I actually gifted this veil to years ago on our local buy nothing group). I altered the dress to fit her perfectly, then re-engineered the veil to suit her vision (and ironed it - all 108" of length and 108" of width!). The best part was attaching it to this constellation tiara, which was inspired by their choice of venue, an observatory! Congrats to the happy couple and

While my art is in residence at for the winter (please go visit and enjoy the wines, the service, and buy a print (make reservations!),
I've rotated in some other artists artwork as well as a small piece of my own.
Darker multicolor abstract on top of pic 1 is Eve's .boy101, bottom is mine. Bright pair of multicolor abstracts above my bed are a project/gift my niece Juliette made for our 2014 wedding (we placed transparent beer and wine menus on top).
It's so refreshing to switch out art every once in a while!

What is a bustle?
It's the art of picking up, draping and fastening the long train of a gown to be level with the front hem, making walking and dancing during the reception carefree.
I use two types - an over bustle (first 3 pics), or an under bustle (last 3 pics). As you may guess, an over bustle is where the fullness is brought up and over the outside of the dress and an under bustle is brought towards the inside.
In this case the bride went with the underbustle, and I think it looks great!

Another happy bride... the lace dress with sheer raglan shoulders and full sleeve was at least two size two big. A total rebuild, including reshaping, re-sewing the lace with invisible stitches, attaching the jeweled belt so the back ties draped just so, and the sweet, simple bustle.

My current project is a custom junior bridesmaid for a November wedding. The first step is exstensive measuring of the person, and of course a detailed design sketch. Then I draft a pattern and create a muslin for a first fitting.
I'll post more pics as I continue to work on it!
