“The scope of oral surgical interventions in children is very broad.
⠀
It starts with simple extractions of aprimary teeth, treatment of infections and includes also more complicated extractions in cases with ankyloses of primary or permanent molars.
⠀
Especially in cases with very early ankylosis of primary molars and subsequently displaced permanent successors and close proximity to delicate structures such as the mandibular nerve, extractions may need a lot of experience and can be very demanding for treatment planning.
⠀
Eruption disturbances in the permanent dentition often require a careful diagnostic and therapeutical approach. There are different reasons for non-eruption such as odontomas, cysts tumors, and ectopic positions etc. that need surgical treatment. Eruption problems often need surgical exposure, placement of a traction device or extraction of obstacles.
⠀
Also, supernumerary teeth can cause multiple complications and need to be removed in many cases. Another wide surgical field in children is treatment alterations in the soft tissues. This includes frenectomies, excisions of mucoceles, fibromas and other pathologies.
⠀
Cases with congenitally missing permanent teeth or tooth loss after trauma can benefit of tooth transplantations. This method is very successful and can spare the patient from having prosthetic reconstructions or open gaps in the dental arch.”

🔔Historically, the management of dental caries was based on the belief that caries was a progressive disease that eventually destroys the tooth unless there was restoration.

Among the objectives of the treatment, the restorer is in the repair or damage by caries, protect and preserve the tooth structure, and maintain pulp vitality whenever possible.

‼️Today, restoration there is no synonym for caries. The restorations have a useful life, so you have to be very careful in choosing each case. Today we have an arrangement, materials with excellent properties of bioactivity, adhesion, aesthetics and functionality.

The current pediatric dentistry faces different aspects of them as interdisciplinary treatment. There are numerous cases in which we intervene in a timely, but which will later require a prosthetic treatment of greater durability and in different conditions of emotional, intellectual and occlusion maturation.

👉🏻We need to adapt to that change and think about the future in what is convenient for our patient, fulfilling their needs.
