A Poem: Roll Tide

My Grandma was from Birmingham
She loved the Crimson Tide
She was good at telling a story, or two
But she swore she never lied

She loved to tell her favorite story
About the stunt, she pulled in school
It was back when she was a sorority girl
When she often drank and played the fool

It was the last game of the season
When the Auburn Tigers came to play
Grandma had downed a few too many
Exactly what, she would never say

If was fourth down with six seconds remaining
The Crimson Tide was ahead by two
The Tigers were about to kick the winning field goal
Grandma felt there was something she needed to do

She decided to strip off all her clothes
And ran down the stair to jump over the fence
She ran across the football field butt naked
Without using much of her good common sense

The entire stadium started cheering
As Grandma streaked across the grass
It took nearly a dozen security guards
To finally catch her and cover her naked rear

The Auburn kicker was so disturbed
That he shanked his kick to lose the game
The Bear gave all the credit to Grandma
Endorsing her for Alabama’s Hall of Fame

As Grandma was carried off the field
She received a raucous standing ovation
Her stunt was played on televisions across America
She was certainly the talk of the nation

At least that's the story Grandma tells
When she's had a few too many
That's her story and she's sticking with it
And it's as good a story as any

Made wit da crawfish from above…

It’s da Saints symbol…
Our team who dat we love…

“G” is forda gumbo…
Datcha grandma makes fo dinna…
“H” is forda horns…
Dat play all night…
When da Saints have a winna…

“I” is forda Indians…
Who come out as is da custom…
“J” is forda Jazz Fest…
If ya eat too much Crawfish Monica…
Undo ya pants so ya don’t bust’em…

“K” is forda King Cake…
Dat we start eatin on da Twelfth Night…
“L” is forda Lucky Dog…
Watch ya self now…
You might get da b***y fright…

“M” is forda Mardi Gras
And all the beads ya gonna catch…
“N” is forda Natchez…
To escape up da river…
From dat Mardi Gras scratch…

“O” is forda oysters…
Ya gonna suck off da half shell…
“P” is forda poboys…
You gonna eat at Domilise’s…
Wit a Barq’s red drink, as well…

“Q” is forda Quarter…
Where ya drink da Pirate’s Punch…
“R” is forya momma’s roux…
Dat she makes…
To start her Sunday brunch…

“S” is forda snowball…
Dat we get at Hansen’s or Sal’s…
“T” is forda Tabasco Sauce…
We put in da redbeans…
On huntin’ trips wit my pals…

“U” is forda Uptown girls…
Who we usta make out wit at da Fly…
“V” is forda voodoo dolls…
Dat da Uptown girls stick wit pins…
After dey dump some Lakeview guy…

“W” is forda Who Dats…
No one could eva’ hold us down…
“X” is forda da hurricane…
To mark where dey be found…

“Y” is forda people of New Orleans…
Always axin where ya’at…
“Z” is forda zydeco music…
Dat da black Creoles make
In South Louisiana, by Lafayette…

Now you know da A, B, C’s
Try my redbeans, if ya pleaze…
