The biggest lessons sometimes come from the most unexpected places. πŸͺIf you think being an event planner is fun, being a business owner on top of that is an entirely different adventure.

As planners and entrepreneurs, it's easy to get caught up in wanting to do everything perfectly, 100% of the time but listen, that's exhausting AF.

Give yourself grace to breathe through the moments as they come rather than critiquing yourself for not having done more or better.

We're all always just figuring things out as we go and hey, sometimes the things we need come from unorthodox places and experiences.

Swipe through to the end for a fun little surprise...

However, where many people fall into a trap is in their desire to have a fast answer to this complex question, before they allow their planner to do their due diligence and figure out how much things will actually cost.

As a planner who offers my clients exclusive, concierge level services, this is one of the first foundational conversations I have with you.

When we work together, we sit and have a robust conversation that explains my process and methods, so you walk away feeling crystal clear about what's coming up.

I share the rationale behind why my discovery process can take anywhere from 5-10 weeks.

I detail my process for sourcing the creative partners I recommend for your event and share how everything will come together to create a production timeline for your big day.

There's a reason why veteran planners at my level charge the investment fees that we do. It's an entirely different ball game.

For a deeper dive into this conversation, check out episode 38 of my podcast: The Real Reason Planners Don't Have Prices on Their Websites.

Chocolate & Coffee β€” the unlikely pairing. Whether you like one or both of these, have you ever tried them together?

Regardless of your preference, milk chocolate or dark, or coffee that you take black or with cream and sugar, you have to admit that there's just something so rewarding about indulging in these delicacies.

What you may not know however, is that these two paired together actually make for a remarkable combination. Stay with me here...

Ever heard the phrase 'Opposites attract?' They may not have been talking about coffee and chocolate but maybe they should have.

Here's how these work together:

Espresso (in particular) and chocolate have delicious compatibility with one another and have actually been enjoyed together for many years.

The delicious taste comes from a juxtaposition between coffee’s bitterness and chocolate’s sweetness. The balance of flavors between these two makes their resulting flavor combination unforgettable.

When you're thinking about your next event, think of flavors and combinations that at first seem unorthodox but that ultimately create a beautiful explosion of flavors.

When we DON'T say the quiet parts out loud. Have you ever met someone and walked away thinking, 'Wow! I don't know what it is but there's just something so mesmerizing and alluring about them?'

This is because they exude an elegance and refinement that's felt and experienced β€” not necessarily seen.

When we say the word 'luxury' we often think of tangible things that we can touch, taste or see. But true luxury is an essence, a feeling, a state of being.

If you know, you know.

In the world of events, we're steadily shifting from grandiose displays of opulence and instead, are reverting back to the tried and true basics of simple elegance.

Your guests want to enjoy their time with you, not be on sensory overload because you threw everything (and the kitchen sink) their way.

When I plan events for clients, I'm mindful of the details because I understand that it's the details that always make a bigger impact than the big things your guests see.

Delicious feeling fabrics, succulent cuisine, intentional movement and creation of spaces from one moment to the next β€” that's how you grab (and keep) your guests attention, from beginning to end.

Let me know, what comes to mind for you when you think of 'luxury?'

It doesn't all need to be so complicated. In fact, it shouldn't.As humans, we have a tendency to want to make things more complex or difficult if it all just seems a bit 'too easy.'

If we're learning something new and it all clicks immediately, we think, 'No, there's a catch that I'm not seeing somewhere.'

If we're planning an event and suddenly everything you wanted is all in one location we think, 'This is too good to be true.'

Here's my question: WHY can't it just be easy?

Life (and events) weren't meant to be these overly-complicated ventures that leave us wondering why in the world we started.

In case you need to hear this today: LET things be EASY.

Stop trying to create twenty steps for something that only requires two.

Want a surefire way to always delight your guests? Choose the unexpected.

When it comes to wedding destinations, there are choices that most people dream about and then, there are others that come as total surprises.

Whether it's across the country or around the world, the destination you choose for your big day should intentionally be chosen to tell a specific part of your event story.

Before I begin scouting potential locations for my clients, there are two questions I always ask them to help set the tone for their big day:

1) Is this wedding Black Tie or barefoot? AND

2) What do you want to feel when you walk into the space?

Understanding their desires allows me to research and source, the best location(s) around the globe that will encapsulate and bring the vision of their event to life.

These destinations are just some of my favorites for spectacular events around the world. Each brings with it a certain essence and flair for the unlimited.

Tell me in the comments, which location was your favorite? 1,2,3,4,or 5?

But what does avoiding it get you? It only keeps you feeling stuck, frustrated, and anxious hoping things somehow get better if only you wish for it hard enough.

With over 14 years in the events industry I've encountered my fair share of moments where difficult conversations were necessary (and yes, some Come to Jesus calming breaths were required.)

When it comes to big events β€” weddings, birthdays, milestones, etc. β€” it's the perfect time to bring family together but, that can also bring up some unsavory feelings.

Rather than faking it till you make it β€” putting up with loved ones that make you feel nothing short of uncomfortable β€” instead, be brave enough to stand up for yourself and share how that makes you feel.

Sure, it won't be easy but at least your voice, feelings and thoughts about the situation will be out there.

I've seen it time and time again. Whether the other person receives the conversation in the spirit you intended or not, you'll wake up feeling just a bit braver the next day because you set boundaries and stood up for YOU. And that?

That's priceless.

Feel free to save + share this graphic. And let me know in the comments if this resonated with you.

There are moments when words are unnecessary. After months of planning and countless decisions being made, the most beautiful parts of your wedding are those moments when it's just the two of you.

The voices quiet down. The music slows. The world fades away and you're simply in this moment.

Let the beauty of a space speak for itself. There's a specific moment during every event planning phase where the beauty of a space leaves you in awe and suddenly, everything you were envisioning comes together. I call this the "Ah, that's it!" moment.

When it comes to location scouting, look for spaces that will not only enhance the overall feel of your event, but more importantly, will bring an added element into play. Let the spaces you choose become their own characters in your event story.

Beautiful hallways, grand staircases, exquisite lighting fixtures, unorthodox entryways β€” all of these pave the way for your event photographer to capture some stunning imagery.

Get creative and use the space to inspire you.

05/04/2023

Protect your peace. Not all that glitters is gold on these internet streets. It's been said time and time again that social media is merely a glimpse into what people behind the accounts *want* you to see.

From breathtaking vacations that immediately evoke FOMO to the seemingly perfect life someone you follow and admire is leading, it all feels like you're somehow not doing as well as everyone else.

In case you need to hear this today: a lot of that is smoke and mirrors.

In our society, what sells and what feels and looks sexy is the final product β€” the multimillion dollar business account receipts, the fancy cars, the hundreds of followers and other shiny objects that to our minds = success.

What we don't see however, are the lonely nights of sacrifice that they didn't post about. Or the moments of crippling self-doubt before things took off.

In a world where so much of what success truly means is glorified to only the 'good' parts, remember that success isn't the win β€” the journey to get there is.

The race you're running is yours and yours alone. Don't be fooled into thinking you're running the same race when truthfully, you (and whomever you think you're competing against), aren't even in the same stadium.

Remember: every 'overnight' success story took years to get there. Be kind to yourself and know that your time is coming too.

Simple elegance is a fine art.In a world where the idea of 'more is more' has been the norm for some time, we're now collectively leaning more into the concept of minimalism.

When it comes to creating an atmosphere of simple elegance at your events, less is truly more. By focusing on minimalistic details and letting the beauty of the space speak for itself, we can achieve a stunningly refined look that is both timeless and sophisticated.

It's okay to be particular. In fact, I encourage it.

Whether we like to admit it or not, we're all creatures of habit and we like what we like.

It's the reason we're willing to drive 10 minutes out of our way to that particular coffee shop because we know the barista will always get our order just right.

It's why we only trust certain people or restaurants to cook a perfect steak. They need to understand the nuance between getting it precisely medium-rare vs. completely missing the mark when it's slightly overcooked.

P.S. this is also why it's so challenging to get this particular dish right at large scale events. Timing is everything!

While it may be true that we're all much more alike than we are different (and an overly toasted piece of bread likely won't ruin your day), I find it fascinating how straight forward we are in our preferences when it comes to these three things.

You don't have to burn yourself out to prove that you're doing something.

One of the things I see a lot, especially lately in the entrepreneurial space, is people turning themselves inside out and running on fumes, just to prove to others that they're 'working' and being 'productive.'

Ma'am! WHO are we proving WHAT to?!

If there's one thing I'm learning to let go of (trust me, it's taken a lot of therapy and anxiety filled nights to get here), is the idea that success only comes from constantly moving, overworking and being productive. The sense that anything less than that equals failure or should somehow cue pangs of guilt and shame is unhealthy, unproductive and utter garbage.

Jesus take the wheel...

What is 'enough' anyway? What might be enough for me might be completely over the top for you and that's okay!

Here's what I've learned:

πŸ’‘ Enough is what YOU define it as. What boundaries are you setting?

πŸ’‘ Are you walking around fully replenished or completely drained?

πŸ’‘ How much grace are you giving yourself? (ahem)

πŸ’‘ How much grace are you giving others? (sips tea)

In our attempts to be everlasting captains of Team Do-The-Most, let's not forget to take a moment to UNPLUG so we can RECHARGE.

Not all heroes wear capes but even the ones that do sometimes need to take that cape off and say, 'For today, I've done enough.'

Hiring an event planner is an investment. Full stop. However, if what you're envisioning for your big day requires a more comprehensive approach and a team of creative experts who can bring it all together, than hiring an event planner is the single best investment you can make.

A few things to keep in mind as you research your perfect planner fit. First, their process will say a lot about the way your entire day and the months leading up to it will go. A planner who is well versed in their craft should have no problem detailing their process for you so you fully understand what you're getting before you sign on the dotted line.

Next, the skill required to not only source but bring together the right creative partners (lighting, culinary, photography, etc.) that will not only achieve but surpass the vision for your day, is crucial. Understanding how a planner engages in this sourcing and vetting process is essential. The last thing you want is a world-class videographer coming into an event that is poorly organized with subpar aesthetics. Details matter!

Last (and most importantly), don't fall in love with your planner until you understand their Minimum Engagement Fee. Top tier planners all have this number. If it's not listed on their website then it should be a question you ask early and upfront.

To be clear, this number is not the full total you'll pay the planner β€” it's merely the MINIMUM that's required to even contract their services. Plan (and budget) accordingly.

There are several new faces around here (welcome!) so I thought I'd take a moment to re-introduce myself and share a few fun facts you won't find anywhere else.

πŸ”ΈUpon meeting me, many people assume I'm an Extrovert (because of my bubbly personality) but nope, I'm definitely Team Introvert. Shocking considering my line of work? Well, here's the thing: when I'm operating in my zone of genius I get energy from the creative flow around me so the extroverted parts of my personality shine through more easily.

πŸ”ΈI've traveled to 4 continents and counting and my goal is to always get as many passport stamps as possible on each new trip. I loved collecting stickers as a kid so this tracks.

πŸ”ΈLobster is my ultimate weakness. 🀀 If it appears anywhere on a menu, I'll usually end up ordering it. As my dad used to say, I have a very sophisticated palate.

πŸ”ΈI have a freakish photographic memory and (one of) my superpowers is instantly recalling memories that are triggered by a scent.

πŸ”ΆGrowing up I always thought I'd be a corporate lawyer (ha! clearly that took a plot twist). Interested in learning what happened with that and how I ended up here? Check out Episode 10 of my podcast linked in my bio.

πŸ”ΈI'm a firm believer that how you treat wait staff says more about you and your character than anything else you could ever tell me.

Wedding trends to keep in mind for 2023 and beyond...Now that the world is officially (fully) back open, event trends are changing almost as quickly as they started to gain steam. Forget the antiquated ball gowns, neutral colored florals, massive wedding parties and conservative one-day affairs.

We're now squarely in the era where couples are going bigger with smaller weddings and event innovation is breaking the mold of what we thought was possible. From multi-day, multi-destination productions to more intentional planning and curation of details that leads to more complex ex*****on, these trends will be here for a while.

At the top of this list will be the increased demand for experienced event planners' expertise and time. Whether you think you may need an event planner or not, it's always a wise idea to understand your options before going down the rabbit hole of trying to figure everything out yourself.

Hiring a planner is certainly an investment but in my opinion, it's the best investment you can make to ensure that your wedding is everything you imagined it would be.

A world-class host always has a few surprises up their sleeve. πŸͺ„A quick yet intentional way to prime your guests for what they'll experience at your event, is to share an intimate detail of what's to come without ruining the entire surprise.

Here's how to do it...

If, let's say, you’ll have a salted caramel cake flavor at your event, arrange for guests to receive a beautifully packaged salted caramel cupcake 2-3 days ahead of the big event with a note that reads, β€˜Can’t wait to see you!’

Until they enter the event space day of, they’ll never know that you previously teased them with a sample of what was to come later on. (Bonus points if they connect the dots!)

When it comes to being a step (or four) above the rest, it all comes down to your ability to both delight your guests and anticipate their needs in ways that are meaningful yet subtle. This is where having an experienced event planner who specializes in thinking outside of the box comes in handy.

Whether it’s having someone’s favorite snacks or beverages at the ready when they enter their hotel room, or ensuring that spa appointments have been pre-booked so your guests are relaxed before traveling back home β€” these small, yet intentional touches let your guests know that their needs are top of mind for you.

Details will make or break any event. Sound too dramatic? It's not.

When it comes to an event, the details that make up your special day, also make up the collective feeling your guests have *about* your event once it's over.

Here's a quick way to elevate your floral details:

πŸ”· Depending on the layout of your tables/room, having floral arrangements that sit higher up than eye level does two things: 1) they naturally draw your eyes up causing you to organically look around the room and 2) they provide a clearer, unobstructed line of sight to the person sitting across from you.

πŸ”· If you'll be using varied colors, make sure that they complement (rather than detract from) the other decor in your space. The last thing you want is guests in a room that feels like everything is clashing and competing for their attention.
