Happy Thanksgiving! Thankful for everyone who visits this page and chooses us for your farm fresh florals 🧡
I’ve been enjoying this trial batch of heirloom chrysanthemums I grew in the greenhouse! They are tall varieties for cutting with such beautiful colors and some unique forms. These plants can be propagated for years to come so we’re looking forward to offering them in the future ☺️

Today I’ve been working on dividing and replanting my spring blooming perennials. A lot of perennials benefit from being divided about every three years.

Believe it or not, we’ve already planted flowers for next spring! 😉 The tulip bulbs are safely tucked in the ground for the winter. Being the first flowers to bloom in the spring, they bring a lot of excitement with them. We mostly grow the exotic double tulips, with some singles and frilly parrots mixed in. Planting tulips is planting hope, amid all the dried browness of fall, for another green and colorful springtime. 🌱🌷💐

Dahlia digging is complete! 🙌🏻
It always seems like a huge chore even tho I don’t have that many, but it only took parts of two days. So happy to knock that off the list of fall chores😊
I’ll step you through my method of digging and storing them. There are several ways to save dahlias, but this is what I have done for quite a few years now with success! I don’t have a cooler to store them in, so I keep them in my heated garage. I like to dig when the ground is slightly damp so as much of the soil stays on the tubers as possible.
1. After a hard frost, cut off the foliage, leaving only a couple inches for a handle and a place to have your tag tied. (Dahlias should be labeled before frost)
2. Dig carefully around the dahlia plant in a wide circle to avoid cutting too many tubers. Lift the clump out and knock off dirt around the edges until you start to see the tubers, then leave the rest of the dirt on.
3. Pack several clumps together in a card board box. I like to use egg boxes because they are sturdy and an easy size to handle. Then I stack the boxes in a corner of our heated garage. Ideal temp is 40-50 degrees.
I find that the soil around the tubers helps keep them from drying and shriveling up in our heated garage.
I will probably start dividing them in January or February and will show you that process also ☺️.

We had 28* here Sunday night 🥶 It looks like the dahlias and zinnias are done for sure, but there are some others that survived so we might get a few more bouquets ☺️
As sad as that may seem, it’s actually kind of exciting to me! That means that soon we can start digging the dahlia tubers and getting them ready for winter storage, so we can divide them and share them with you again in the spring! On to the next season! 🤩
Our stand is still open daily with pumpkins, and we will have more goodies this Saturday again: casseroles, baked goods and hopefully flowers!
