Today I painted a new residents nails at work and as we were going over colors, she mentioned she wanted clear. The only thought that came to my mind was "CLEAR?! That's no fun." I asked her why she wanted clear and she said, "My hands are ugly, I don't want to draw attention to them." I then carefully responded with, "Your hands tell the story of your life. They tell the story of love, of care and adventure. These hands have touched and held things that most people can only wish to one day." And with that, she went with the color pink for her nails. Sometimes what we are so insecure with, others find beauty in so lets show our support. 💖

This is Lisa. She was brought to tears last week during our Shop with a Cop event when she saw a young man spending his Shop with a Cop Christmas gift card buying groceries instead of gifts for himself. She was so moved, she stepped in to pay for the groceries he had in his cart. She told us, “kids need to be kids,” and that the young man should be spending the gift card on gifts for himself not groceries. She personally paid almost $70 for the groceries. The young man was then able to purchase Christmas presents. Her kind act impacted one of our officers so much, the next great thing happened. Officer Branda Marchica is a school resource officer at Endeavour Elementary. The day after we shared the Shop with a Cop story on social media, many people approached the officer wanting to give something back to this woman for her act of kindness. In response, Officer Marchica coordinated a collection effort that included donations from many people including Endeavour Elementary School, the men and women at the Cocoa Police Department, and local businesses in Cocoa. Officer Marchica asked this good Samaritan to stop by the police department Wednesday morning for a special surprise. She arrived around 10 a.m. and Officer Marchica, with Sgt. Roman, Lt. Bobay and other representatives of the agency presented her with various gift cards worth $265 including a massage, a professional photo shoot for her family of 9 children and 30 grandchildren, and $1300 in cash donated by people who believe one act of kindness deserves another! Thank you, Lisa for reminding all of us that there is so much goodness all around us, and when you do good things, it always comes back to you tenfold!
