Let's talk LIGHTING💡☀️
'Tis the season for the sun going down early evening & days overall being pretty dreary. We pride ourselves on being a natural light studio that doesn't require any artificial light. This does mean our light throughout the day changes. Here are our rules of thumb for lighting (year round, but most important this time of year):
🌇 Our front windows face the east which means our strongest light is in the morning. The first 2-3hrs of daylight at studio will bring a harsher light. Our sheer curtains help diffuse but also create shadows at this time of day. You'll need to move further back from the front windows at this time if you don't want harsh shadows.
🌤️ Mid-day will provide you the most even, natural light. This is typically from 9/10AM - 2 hrs before sunset. Cloudy day or sunny day you will be able to easily shoot in this lighting without feeling like you're walking into an editing nightmare for lighting (iykyk). 90% of the photos you see taken at Studio 125 are in this time frame.
🌆 We recommend taking your last picture in studio one hour BEFORE the sun is fully set. If the sun sets at 5PM, we recommend being done by 4PM. At that point the sun is completely behind our building and you're receiving very minimal natural light. If you're comfortable with flash or artificial light, this would be a great time to break it out in studio.
We hope this helps and can't wait for you to get your photos done with your favorite photographer in our space🤍
