Like Christmas of 2023, the afternoon "boys" on the West Coast of our lodge social quarters got together to purchase 5 trees to go to
those who might not otherwise have one this year. Between "Vets to Vets United" and our Welcome Home Kit team, 5 families were
identified. The Raleigh Elks Bingo team quickly approved decorations, lights, a tree stand and a skirt to be delivered with each tree. A plastic tub was added as well to store all this for next year!

Fellow members, this is a note regarding teamwork at our Lodge and how it affected 5 Veterans this Holiday Season.

As our Christmas Tree sales were progressing, the members on the west side of the bar (in the afternoons) decided it would be great to

purchase 5 trees and donate them to Veterans who might otherwise not have a tree this year. Then they set about trying to find homes

for the trees.

The first was identified through Vets to Vets United, the local Veterans' Service Dog organization. And then the Welcome Home Kit

(WHK) team got involved and added 4 Veterans who were recently settled in their new homes.

But what about decorations, lights, a tree stand, skirt, and a topper? Every cake needs icing, right? And our Bingo team quickly approved

the funds to purchase all of these items along with a Tupperware container to store them in after the holidays. Then the WHK team did

the shopping and delivered the items back to the Lodge in time for the Westside gang to deliver them all!

Now, THAT's teamwork done Elks style! And 5 Veterans and their families now have trees for Christmas!

Warm regards and happy holidays,

Brian Madigan

The Welcome Home Kit Committee needs your help making the Holidays a little brighter for the children of our Veterans.

The Welcome Home Kit Committee receives referrals from the VA HUD-Vash counselors and other Veteran organizations in the area for Veterans entering housing after being homeless. While our kit is not all that they need to live a normal life, they receive the basics to be able to fend for themselves and get a good night's rest. We provide beds and bedding, kitchen items such as pots and pans and dinnerware, bathroom items including towels and shower curtain, cleaning items and non perishable food items.

In 2024, The Welcome Home Committee provided kits for 58 Veterans. Of the 58 Veterans, twelve (12) had their children with them making a fresh start in life. These twelve families have a total of 28 children, 18 and under.

Our Shoppers contacted all twelve families and they, like many others, are struggling this year to provide for their children for Christmas. Most of the families are in need of clothing for their children.

Our Committee has created tags for each of the children. Please sign out the tags on the sheet on the table. We ask that all wrapped presents be back to the Lodge by Saturday, December 14th, to give the shoppers and other committee members time to deliver to our families.

If you are unable to get to the Lodge to get a tag and want to assist, we can pull a tag for you and text the "wish" list. Please let us know if you would like a boy or a girl and an age range you are wanting.

Please text Stan Hoffman at 919-669-4932 or Yvonne Tucker at 919-604-4480 and they will send you a picture of the tag.

Thank you for your support of our Nations Veterans.
