The Welcome Home Kit Committee needs your help making the Holidays a little brighter for the children of our Veterans.

The Welcome Home Kit Committee receives referrals from the VA HUD-Vash counselors and other Veteran organizations in the area for Veterans entering housing after being homeless. While our kit is not all that they need to live a normal life, they receive the basics to be able to fend for themselves and get a good night's rest. We provide beds and bedding, kitchen items such as pots and pans and dinnerware, bathroom items including towels and shower curtain, cleaning items and non perishable food items.

In 2024, The Welcome Home Committee provided kits for 58 Veterans. Of the 58 Veterans, twelve (12) had their children with them making a fresh start in life. These twelve families have a total of 28 children, 18 and under.

Our Shoppers contacted all twelve families and they, like many others, are struggling this year to provide for their children for Christmas. Most of the families are in need of clothing for their children.

Our Committee has created tags for each of the children. Please sign out the tags on the sheet on the table. We ask that all wrapped presents be back to the Lodge by Saturday, December 14th, to give the shoppers and other committee members time to deliver to our families.

If you are unable to get to the Lodge to get a tag and want to assist, we can pull a tag for you and text the "wish" list. Please let us know if you would like a boy or a girl and an age range you are wanting.

Please text Stan Hoffman at 919-669-4932 or Yvonne Tucker at 919-604-4480 and they will send you a picture of the tag.

Thank you for your support of our Nations Veterans.

ANGEL TREE: For those of you that don't know, this is one of our events we have been doing for years for the National Guard kids. They fill out a wish list for clothes, toys, food, etc. and we hang the requests on a Christmas tree in the lounge, and members choose a tag to buy for, sign out the tag and bring the gifts in wrapped for the National Guard to swing by and pick them up. Becky just got the lists this weekend, and the deadline to bring in the gifts is December 9th, so not a lot of time this year. Becky's message is below.

It’s that time of year again to help our Army of Hope families. I have placed 40 tags on the tree in the annex of children that could use a little extra love this year.

If you take a tag off the tree, please sign the sign-up sheet (it’s neon green) that goes with your number on the tag.

I just need your name and phone number.

I need them back at the lodge wrapped with the tag on the outside so it is visible by December 9th. I know it only gives you a week to make it happen but I just got the list myself.

All of these families have also requested food. For those that would prefer to not shop, I am also collecting Food Lion gift cards to give to these families.

As always, your support for our National Guard is very much appreciated.

If you have any questions let me know.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 1ST-ELKS MEMORIAL SERVICE-

This year’s Elks Memorial Service will be held on December 1st at noon, followed by a potluck gathering in the Social Quarters. The Lodge will provide a ham and all are welcome to bring your favorite dish to share with your fellow Elks.

This event is to remember our Elks that have passed away this past year. The event in the Annex is open to non-members
for the service, but not the lounge afterwards unless they are signed in by a member(our normal guest rules). This event is
also one of our required events where the lounge will be closed during the event and all Elks attend the service. Usually lasts
about half an hour and the bar will open after the service.

When Hurricane Helene came through the western part of North Carolina, Raleigh Elks James and Abbie Martin took on some awesome assistance to those affected! For weeks, they drove out to provide meals and needed supplies to many of those who had lost everything!

Weeks later while James was driving in the area he came across a man standing on a bridge. James is a trained first responder and felt that something didn't look right, so he stopped and cautiously approached the man. He had lost so much and was considering ending his life. James literally talked him off the bridge and connected him with various agencies to help him get through the tough time ahead.

Next time you see James and Abbie be sure to thank them!
