We lost another very talented (and young) performer recently- Jeremy Pei. Outside of the “magic community” Jeremy wasn’t as known here in the US as he was in Singapore. I want to say I first met him 16-18 years ago and had numerous conversations with him through a magic forum website we both belonged to over the years.

Jeremy was an incredible guy with an amazing love and unending passion for the art. He was always eager to give tips or share ideas on several similar projects we both were working on. I’ve seen lots of messages on social media the past few days from magicians all over the world and it’s incredible to see how many lives he touched!

Rest in peace Jeremy 🪄🕊️🎩

End of an era…

Today, the Tropicana closes its doors for good before they implode it in October to make way for the new A’s Stadium!

I have so many fond memories of my short time working at The Trop at the Tiffany Theater in Dirk Arthur’s “Xtreme Magic” Show! Walking the back halls were cast members passed through on a daily basis, rolling the illusions through that massive stage door to preset/strike the show, the cafeteria in the basement, and even the catwalks outside that I would frequent to go get a cheap NY steak dinner at the Excalibur or a delicious Ruben sandwich at the little deli at the MGM between shows…

As one of the last of the Las Vegas “Mob Era” casinos, this place is full of nostalgia and history! C’mon, James Bond (Diamonds Are Forever) once stayed there! - yes, I did my homework and once asked if I could see the exact room he stayed in!

So many of Magic’s greatest performers including Seigfried & Roy, Lance Burton, Rick Thomas, and even Dirk Arthur himself graced the stage… this barely scratches the surface of talent that has come out of this location as the longest running show in Las Vegas- The Folies Bergere also found its home within these walls!

I feel for those who have been employed at the Tropicana all these years and called it their home away from home as they seek new work.

I’m devastated by the news of the passing of Dirk Arthur.

Many of you know I worked in Las Vegas back in 2007/08 and had an incredible experience being there. I met many of my idols, worked with some amazing people, and had so many many unique opportunities while I was there… I have to say I owed it all to Dirk. Once the “holy crap, I’m working for the guy that made the helicopter appear” on TV’s “Worlds Greatest Magic” wore off, I felt like I gained a another friend/brother in the art!

Dirk’s passion was magic and you can tell he loved performing for those that came to see him. He was very serious about his craft but there was also a lot of fun memories being on stage with him. He loved his many tigers and big cats and along with the show, they came first in his life.

Though he didn’t stand all that tall, Dirk was one of the “Big Guys” in the industry and leaves behind a legacy.

I had so much fun sharing the stage with a great friend and entertaining everyone who came out to see us! Thank you to everyone who made it out and have so much encouragement after the show and through social media!

It didn’t take long to find my way around under the stage lights after such a long hiatus! I figured I might have to do another show for the public!

Stay tuned… I’ve got something in the works at a really cool place, with really good food…in Redding!!!

Happy Birthday to this legend- Ehrich Weiss! Many of you recognize him and know him as magician/escape artist- Harry Houdini.

Houdini was born March 24th in Budapest, Hungary in 1874. (He later passed at the age of 52 on Halloween of 1926)

Some fun facts about Houdini:

1. He was one of the world’s first private pilots and was the first pilot to fly an airplane in Australia!

2. Although born in Hungary, Houdini was a patriotic American and would often entertain US soldiers during WW1.

3. Houdini owned his own movie studio! He produced silent films and was the first to feature a movie with a robot in it called, “Master Mystery!”

4. Houdini never drank alcohol!

5. Some may argue the validity of this; however, Houdini was responsible for naming the famous performer, Buster Keaton!

6. Houdini once sued a police officer in Cologne, Germany because the officer accused Harry of making his escapes via bribery. Harry won the case when he opened the judge's safe (he later admitted that the judge had forgotten to lock it)

7. Houdini’s first job in the United States was as a trapeze artist!

8. Harry Houdini was a Freemason.

9. Houdini’s past time in school was as a cross country runner and he was really good at it!

10. Houdini was the inventor of the Chinese Water Torture Cell. In this trick he escaped from a water chamber while being suspended upside down from its ceiling (and no, he did not die performing this!)

It’s crazy to think a week has already passed since I made my way over to Crescent City, CA to work with my brother in the art- Aaron Radatz and his beautiful wife, April at the Elk Valley Casino!

It was great not only catching up with him and his amazing crew. Getting to see my cousin and her husband while we were in their neck of the woods was an added bonus!

I definitely came home with a little “magic dust” on me… (lol- no, that’s not a drug reference!) It was inspiring to get back out and under the stage lights again!
