Getting ready to head to the fairgrounds for the 2026 Fair Season? Make sure your animals are cleared for entry! Here is your quick, up-to-date guide on the Animal Testing & Health Requirements for each species.
🚨 UNIVERSAL RULE (All Species)
Daily Vet Inspections: All fairs lasting longer than 24 hours require a daily veterinary inspection.Heading to the fairgrounds? Keep your livestock and community safe by reviewing the updated Animal Testing & Health Requirements before you pack the trailer.

Vet Inspections: All fairs lasting >24 hours require a daily veterinary inspection. Animals showing any signs of contagious disease will be denied entry or quarantined.
📋 REQUIREMENTS BY SPECIES
🐄 LACTATING DAIRY CATTLE
H5N1 Update: 🚫 NO LONGER REQUIRED. A negative Influenza A test is no longer required.
Official ID: Mandatory 15-digit "840" RFID tags for all entries.
Milking Parlor: Open and operational!
🐖 SWINE
Testing: PRRS and PEDv testing is no longer required for Wisconsin exhibitions.
Herd Inspection: Herd of origin must be vet-inspected within 30 days of the fair.
Official ID: Mandatory (USDA silver tag, 840 ear tag, or registered purebred notch/tattoo).
🐓 POULTRY & GAME BIRDS
Young Birds: Must originate from a WI Tested, WI Associate, or NPIP-registered flock (Form 9-2 required).
Mature Birds: Negative Pullorum-Typhoid test within 90 days or from a certified flock.
Turkeys: Must also test negative for Pullorum-Typhoid AND Mycoplasma gallisepticum.
🐎 HORSES & EQUINE
Coggins Test: Negative EIA/Coggins test within the last 12 months is strictly required. Present paperwork, photos, or microchip ID at arrival or WILL BE TURNED AWAY.
EHV Update: Statements regarding EHV exposure are no longer required.
🐐 SHEEP & GOATS
ID (In-State): Scrapie tag or 840 RFID required for all sexually intact animals, and neutered animals ≥12 months.
ID (Out-of-State): CVI and Official ID required for all ages.
Health: Must be free of sore mouth, ringworm, foot-rot, lice, or scabies. (Note: MI goats from TB zones need a special permit/test).
🐕 DOGS
Rules: Current Rabies vaccination certificate and Leptospirosis history/testing required.

H5N1 Influenza A Update: 🚫 TESTING NOT REQUIRED. A negative Influenza A virus test is no longer required for lactating dairy cattle attending fairs and exhibitions.
Official ID: Mandatory! All entries must have a 15-digit "840" RFID tag.
Milking Parlor: Open and fully operational!
🐖 SWINE
2026 Testing Rule: PRRS and PEDv testing is no longer required for swine to attend terminal or non-terminal exhibitions in Wisconsin.
Herd Inspection: The herd of origin must be inspected by a veterinarian within 30 days of the exhibition to confirm no apparent disease.
Official ID: Mandatory (USDA silver tag, 840 ear tag, or registered purebred ear notch/tattoo).
🐓 POULTRY & GAME BIRDS
Option A (Young Birds): Must originate from a Wisconsin Tested Flock, Wisconsin Associate Flock, or NPIP-registered flock (Form 9-2 required).
Option B (Mature Birds): Must have a negative Pullorum-Typhoid test within 90 days before movement or belong to a certified flock.
🦃 Important Turkey Note: Turkeys must additionally be tested for Pullorum-Typhoid AND Mycoplasma gallisepticum.
🐎 HORSES & EQUINE
Coggins Test: Proof of a negative Equine Infectious Anemia (EIA/Coggins) test conducted within the previous 12 months is strictly required.
Enforcement: Official paperwork showing a complete description, digital photos, or microchip ID must be presented upon arrival. Horses without a valid test WILL BE TURNED AWAY.
EHV Update: Statements regarding Equine Herpesvirus (EHV) exposure are no longer required on incoming certificates.
🐐 SHEEP & GOATS
Scrapie & Official ID (Within WI): Official ID (Scrapie tag or 840 RFID) is required for all sexually intact animals of any age, and all neutered animals 12 months or older.
Scrapie & Official ID (Outside WI): Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI) and Official ID are required for all animals regardless of age.
Health Standard: Must be entirely free of visible signs of sore mouth, ringworm, foot-rot, lice, or scabies.
Michigan Exception: Goats originating from Michigan's TB Modified Accredited Zone require a special import permit and a whole-herd/individual negative Tuberculosis test.
🐕 DOGS
Vaccination & Health: Certification of a current Rabies vaccination is mandatory.
Leptospirosis: Vaccination history plus any fair-specific testing requirements must be presented.
