Floyd Rose bridge systems are often criticized for their tuning complexities and high maintenance requirements.
However, here's a straightforward checklist for an easy string change.
1. Unlock the locking nut at the headstock and locking screws on the bridge saddles
2. Replace the old strings ONE AT A TIME to maintain tension on the bridge. Otherwise it will dip and your whole instrument will be f–ked The bridge needs to stay parallel to the body of the guitar.
3. Loosen the fine tuners on the bridge because new strings are gonna go flat and you are going to need the headroom.
4. When you wind the new strings use one frets length of slack. Don’t overwind it with too much because it will affect your tuning stability - and it looks ugly.
5. Stretch the strings. I like to do wide vibrato bends on every fret with every string.
6. Re-tighten the locking screws, bridge saddles and tune the guitar using the fine tuners.
7. If your bridge isn’t parallel, - this is usually caused by switching to a different string gauge - Adjust the spring tension, typically via two bolts in the guitar's back.
8. Congratulations, hopefully your new strings maintain stability and tuning accuracy. They may need a few days to settle in so make sure to play a lot ☕.

Production breakdown:
This one was actually quite difficult to mix. I spent considerable time stretching the engine idle sound to align with the music in context. I heavily compressed/saturated the kicks to achieve a gritty, aggressive analog vibe. However, I overlooked an issue of overloading and clipping tracks, realizing this only after nearly a hundred layers were in place, prompting a comprehensive balance check and a redo.
Maintaining a powerful low end while avoiding excessive grainy saturation posed a challenge. Initially, my kick had an excess of mid frequencies due to saturation at 2-4kHz, lacking the desired low-end punch. To fix it, I layered four kicks – one for ultra lows and the others for character and depth.
The tiktok lady pronounces her s's very harshly, requiring extensive manual de-essing, I then put a telephone EQ to smooth it out even more.
Overall it was my first attempt at making something in this genre. As a producer, exploring new ideas and pushing beyond one's comfort zone is crucial. Different genres demand distinct techniques, fostering versatility and growth in one's craft.
