This is not “bad news” that you’re breaking to your loved ones. It’s an exciting, romantic announcement of your plans to celebrate your love in a way that makes you and your partner happiest. When you frame your elopement announcement as an apology or a negative conversation, it sets the stage as such. In other words, it shows your loved ones that this is not good news for them and that they should feel negative about the situation.

There are countless ways to include your loved ones in your day, both in-person and otherwise!

Here are some tips around announcing your elopement!

⛰As you have discussions with your partner about your elopement vision, remind yourselves to immerse all five senses into your experience — this is often a key characteristic of a core memory. Oftentimes, when you recall a core memory, the emotions paired with the recollection are so powerful that it’s easy to recall what all of your senses were experiencing. For example, is there a certain smell that takes you back to a very particular time and place? Is there a song that transports you to a specific memory? As you have discussions about your elopement vision with your partner, if you’re able, consider your senses as often as possible. Immerse yourself in sensory experiences that are pleasant for you — snack on a food you love, play some of your favorite music in the background, etc.

⛰These memories are so special. Don’t forget that! Planning an elopement is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and as you reflect on this time later on in life, you’ll want your memories to be as clear, accessible, and tangible as possible.

👀 It’s no secret that weddings can be insanely stressful. Will your guests like the catering? Is anyone going to notice the flower arrangements? Are party favors necessary? Will it be awkward if people don’t dance?

Blah.

If you don’t think it’s worth stressing about, then you don’t need to let yourself stress about it. How cool is that? Couples who choose to elope often ditch the biggest stressors on their wedding day. If you don’t have guests to cater to, you won’t have to worry if anyone likes the food! No flower arrangements? No problem! Party favors? Forget about it! Dancing? We feel very strongly that two people are enough for a dance party, so there you have it.

—You can ELOPE however the heck you want!

—There are absolutely no limits to what your elopement can look like. Couples are constantly pushing the boundaries for what creative, wild, adventurous antics can happen during an elopement.

—You can have your elopement in whatever location you want, celebrate however you want, make it last as long as you want, and invite whoever you want. Set the rulebook on fire and roast marshmallows on it!

—You don’t have to elope in the mountains. You don’t have to hike 12 miles to get married in a beautiful location (spoiler alert: there are so many accessible, easy-to-get-to locations for intimate ceremonies). Your elopement can be boujee, or laid back. It can be free of drama, and it’s no less meaningful than a traditional wedding.

—If something is important to you, it can be included in your elopement day – if there’s a will, there’s a way! Your day should truly represent *you,* and if that means doing something totally out-of-the-ordinary, then DO IT! Bend the rules, break the rules, and craft a day for yourself that has your name written all over it. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
