A beautiful day for four small weddings in Bush Park. I revel in celebrating the equal dignity of every marriage, regardless of its size! Congratulations to Kyle and Elizabeth, servicemembers getting married before shipping out! Congratulations to Khalid and Yusur, reunited through the fiancee visa process! Congrats to Bryan and Ristine, celebrating their new life in America together! And congrats to Liliana and Jose Luis, making it official after 25 years together! May your marriages be long and happy!

Yesterday, the board and staff of CASA of Marion County toured the old Statesman Journal building, which is being redeveloped as a nonprofit hub. I'm sad to see how far the Statesman has fallen from relevance, but it's exciting to see the building redeveloped to serve our community. I'm very proud of the work I do on CASA's board to protect foster children, and I'm excited about the possibilities in downtown Salem.

In celebration of TEN YEARS of marriage equality, the Lane County Circuit Court is offering FREE marriages and a free cake & beverage reception May 17. (I'm a judge in Marion County, but I'll be helping out too!) The county is waiving both the ceremony fee and the marriage license fee. Already married? No problem -- We're also doing vow renewals! Please share this information widely because this is a day to celebrate!

Yesterday, I married a couple who met when the Dodgers won the World Series. They chose their marriage date to coincide with baseball season, so they can always go to an opening day game on their anniversary.

I often carry spare rings in my marryin' briefcase, since some couples come to their ceremony ringless, for whatever reason. I do it because I want couples to have access to the full ceremony, if they want it. And, after all, it's the promise behind the ring, not the ring itself, that matters. Since October, I've been wondering who would choose this spider ring. Got my answer this week. Congrats to Jacob and Dakotah. I love their offbeat sense of humor and joie de vivre!
