Vocal Dimension teaches about the history and formal structures of opera. That may sound dry, but it is music-filled, interactive, upbeat, humorous, and positive.

The performers then enlist the help of students to help present a short operatic version of “The Three Little Pigs.”

The whole purpose is to show students what a collaborative, creative art form opera is and to get students involved in the process.

The Music Makers assembly is all about singing music, creating music on the spot with numbers, and featuring students performing as well.

They explain that music can help you learn names, dates, alphabet, and how it can cheer you up when you're down. That's why it's important to choose good uplifting music.

During the assembly these are some activities students can look forward to;
- "Name that tune" with tunes from movies.
- Thinking of words that rhyme with animals and talk about how lyrics to songs often have rhyming words.

When Blow Up Kingz comes to your school, they will educate kids on the history of hip hop, where it all started and what it has led to. They also create a fun environment that teaches the kids about community and how they are a “community” in school, and the importance of unity between all grades.

The performers will then focus on the role that break dance had in hip hop culture and break it down into 4 foundations of break dance. Dancers will show the kids moves from the 4 areas and get kids up on their feet to learn some moves!

Fiddle Tunes has a great program where they teach students about the rich tradition of fiddle music in America. They will introduce the most common instruments that are used in string bands as they demonstrate a variety of styles and sounds.

Students will learn the difference between the fiddle and the violin, they’ll learn how music can tell a story or accompany a dance, and they’ll learn some basic concepts about harmony, rhythm, and singing in a community setting.

We are excited to introduce our 2023-2024 groups! First up is our newest group, Bomba Marilé.

Bomba music has been practiced in Puerto Rico for over 500 years and incorporates traditions from African, Europe, and Taino indigenous practices. In bomba, the dancer will make accents with their body or skirt and the drummer will try to match the accents on the drum to match the movements of the dancer. The dancer thus creates music by their movements and by how the drummer interprets the movement.

Bomba Marilé is the first ever bomba group in the state of Utah to share Puerto Rican bomba with the community.

Meet our Education Director, Natasha Buckner. We asked her a few questions to get to know her just a little bit!

- What is your favorite play?
I have seen 17 Broadway plays and love so many. Memphis and Dear Evan Hansen are probably my top two.

- What do you do for fun?
Most of my time is spent with my two boys. I love to travel, watch Utah Utes football, and play board games.

- Why do you love the arts?
I grew up performing, in a signing and dancing group, all over the country. I had friends and so many experiences I wouldn’t have normally been able to have. The arts allowed me to make these connections and find a passion for performing and appreciating different forms of the arts.
