I’ve already posted this to my feed, but I wanted to repost it as a before and after in honor of concluding a two week period of feeling incredibly self-doubting and inadequate.

The first time I edited this photo several years ago I was still “retouching” in Lightroom (and by that I mean just removing all texture from my subject’s face) and let me tell you, I really thought I popped off with this one.

I’ve spent the last two weeks overthinking all of my edits and social media posts, but seeing this side-by-side is a gentle reminder of how much I’ve grown in my work, and more importantly that I HAVE the capability to grow. Ultimately, it is a blessing to be able to cringe at your old work.

I wanted to share this in case anyone else needs to hear that you have yet to become the best version of yourself and you’re doing fantastic on the path that you’re on.

25 years into life, and 5 months into my photography business; I am so incredibly grateful for more than I can begin to express. For the people who believed in me and encouraged me to pursue my passion as a career. For the experiences I had in my twenty fourth year that caused me to lean into my creativity. For all of the friends who have become clients and clients who have become friends.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much to everyone who has supported me in this journey. Whether you have trusted me to capture you in a way that truly reflects how you would like to be perceived, recommended me to friends and family who are looking for pictures, or simply engaged with my social media posts, your contribution to my success means the WORLD to me.

N@ and I crossed paths when she was studying to be a hairstylist.

I was flustered and felt an immediate need to have my overgrown and frayed hair cropped; I was in an extremely dark place and couldn’t stand another day of seeing the imperfections I felt inside reflected in the form of my unkempt hair.

From the second we met Nat was an absolute joy. We had masks on at the time due to the pandemic, but I didn’t need to see her smile to know that it lit up every room she walked in.

Among many other topics of conversation, Nat told me about the music she made. Although I hadn’t yet made the decision to convert my hobby as a photographer into a career path, I knew I was in good company as a creative.

For the following couple of years Nat and I maintained a distant social media relationship, until about a month ago when she reached out to me about photographing her for her upcoming music releases. As we brainstormed ideas for the shoot, I knew I was in GREAT company as a creative.

We had an in person meeting before our shoot and ended up practically in tears in the lobby of the studio over the life experiences we shared that led us down our creative paths. We resonated with turning to God to fight escapism, and she expressed her desire to incorporate and give credit to Him in everything she does.

Experiences like meeting someone with as much empathy, warmth, and passion as Nat are few and far between, so it is with immense gratitude that I share what we’ve created. I am so happy to have been a part of this journey with her, and urge anyone reading this to take the time out of your day to feed your soul with her music.
