I don’t normally step out front in our ALF affairs, but our current situation has forced me out from behind my GM curtain. Please give me 5 minutes to read below and then decide if you can help. Thanks, Matt Holman.
The Africa Lacrosse Foundation (a California based 501 C 3 non-profit) is currently assisting a group of young women from Kenya who’ve been invited to participate in the Canadian Lacrosse World Super Sixes Tournament is just over a month!
Our goal? To generate enough financial support to cover lodging, meals, flights, and necessary off field travel necessities (travel bags, toilet kits, items you & I might take for granted). All totaled, about $35,000 USD, a far cry from the $95,000 - $140,000 needed for a men’s or women’s field team to play in a World Championship.
To date, we’ve raised $3,950. Of which, $3,750 has been paid to secure the group’s airline tickets.
In the last few weeks, our ALF Women’s Director Ashlee Aitken (Canadian resident), has rallied local supporters who have agreed TO PROVIDE LODGING FOR OUR WOMEN’S TEAM throughout the long weekend of the tournament. 👏🏽👏🏻👏🏿👏🏼 This has reduced our funding need by a good chunk.
WHAT’S NEEDED TODAY?
We need to pay the balance of our group flight reservation ($14,000USD) by Friday, Sept. 8th!
THE ASK!
1000 OF YOU TO PLEASE DONATE $15 BY MIDNIGHT THURSDAY!
Yes, I built in a cushion. Any excess is applied to the remainder of costs, roughly $4,500.
So, here is the assignment:
• Donate $15 by midnight Thursday!
o Yes of course you can give more!
• Ask your followers to do the same!
• Call it “Skipping _____ Thursday!”
o Insert “Starbucks, 7/11, Waffle House, Wawa”, or whatever you’ll skip that day.
Reaching 1000 givers isn’t that hard if we all join and harness the power of social media! I love this sport and know that we can exceed this 1000/$15 donor goal before midnight Thursday!
Please use the last minutes to donate & challenge others to as well!
