Our Story
First opened as a dance hall in the 1940’s as La Moderna Inn by Antonio Sanchez, locals referred to it as, “Sanchez Hall” and it was the premiere place in San Elizario for wedding receptions and the big band dances that were popular at the time. In the 1970’s, Antonio’s youngest son, Benjamin took over and renamed it The Boondocks. Under his ownership, it was the location for a scene in the 1982 film, “The Border” starring Jack Nicholson. In 1990, a fire destroyed everything but the adobe walls! In 2005, Ben, his wife Grace and a crew of locals rebuilt the hall and the couple reopened it as a party venue once again, under the name Maya’s Gardens. In 2018, daughter Maya and her husband Gabriel took over and renamed it Presidio Hall, as it is known today.
