At Ice Illusions, we are committed to exploring the aesthetics of ice. Check out the results of our ice "marbling" technique for a very special birthday. This technique requires shocking the block (extreme temperature change to shatter the ice). We then age it in the freezer for several months after to soften the hardness of the fractures. When done correctly you get this beautiful feathery marbled effect. What are your thoughts?

Blast from the past: Our 2011 World Ice Art Team Entry.

The 13' rope made out of ice was one of the most challenging things to figure out since it was suspended horizontally. It hung on just long enough to be judged and broke hours later. Our piece depicted a scene from the epic Artic Man race held in Alaska annually. The overall height of this sculpture was over 20' high. The team competition took 4 men, 5 full days to sculpt. Great times!

The Arctic Man is one of the World's Toughest Downhill Ski races, and an exciting snowmobile race, all in one. The skier begins at a summit elevation of 5,800 feet and drops 1700 feet in less than two mile to the bottom of a narrow canyon where he meets up with his snowmobiling partner.
The snowmobiler meets the skier, on the go, with a tow rope and pulls the skier 2 1/4 miles uphill at top speeds of up to 86 mph. The skier and the snowmobile then separate and the skier goes over the side of the second mountain and drops another 1200 feet to the finish line.

Oldie but goodie. This was pre-CNC when everything was 100% hand carved. We love and take advantage of our CNC technology now but I feel some of the art gets lost. This has always been an ongoing debate in the ice community. What do you think?
