The Academy is looking…

The Academy of Dance is looking for a part time dance teacher/sub for their 2023-2024 season. The teacher should be passionate, reliable, and qualified to teach both Jazz and Ballet at all levels for ages 9-Adult (though we are mainly looking for Jazz teachers to fill out our schedule).

Teachers must have experience teaching jazz dance styles and be able to choreograph two dance pieces for The Academy of Dance performing group season.

The position is part time (an hourly rate will be decided based on experience and education). Teachers should be available 3:30PM-6:30PM on Tuesday and Thursday (The Academy will always work with a teachers schedule, though in this case, our new season is starting August 4, and we have some classes scheduled that need to coupled with a teacher).

The Academy of Dance has been in business on the central coast for over 50 years. They are the home of The Civic Ballet of San Luis Obispo and The San Luis Jazz Dancers. Along with the Civic Ballet, dancers at the Academy enjoy non competitive performance opportunities at venues including The Performing Arts Center’s Harold Miossi Hall, The Spanos Theater, Farmers market and more. Hello Dancers and Dance Families!

Following the lead of every other extracurricular activity in our county, we have decided to close today. The conditions of roads in and around The Academy are too dangerous to travel on. We also have teachers coming from the Los Osos and Morro Bay Area that would be stranded in town if they were to travel in for work. We know this is not an ideal situation, but as we always say, the safety of our students and staff are the most important thing.

For dancers in the 4 week ballet progression; we will be scheduling a makeup day for that class so that you get the full 4 week course.

For all other students with a scheduled class today; we will be marking you absent for today and you will be awarded a makeup credit for you to use on any class here at The Academy. If you need direction on what classes would be appropriate for your student to makeup, please email us back here at the Academy and we will suggest some.

Again, we apologize for the inconvenience. We sure love that the central coast is getting rain, we just wish it wasn't so intrusive to our regularly scheduled classes.

Hello Dancers and Dance Families!

Unfortunately, we will be closed again due to extreme weather Tuesday, January 10. Out of an abundance of caution for our students and teachers traveling from surrounding areas, we have decided to hold off our opening until Wednesday, January 11. We are currently exploring having a makeup day where we present our Monday & Tuesday schedule on another day for the missed classes.

As always, The Academy's main concern is for the safety of our Dancers and Staff. We apologize for the late notice and inconvenience.
