Last night we were graced with the presence of Cuban vocalist, Ernesto Oviedo, percussionist, John Santos, and their good friends, Mauricio and Eddie :-)

They will be performing tonight, Friday, August 28th, at YOSHI’s in Oakland CA. As many of you know at Cuban Kitchen we value the tradition and authenticity of our Cuban music as much as we honor the tradition of our Cuban cuisine. It was such a great treat for us to have the opportunity to commune with these great artists and fellow Cubans!

Gracias Ernesto, John, Mauricio e Eddie!

Abrazo fuerte para cada uno,

Lynna

On this 18th day of August, 2015 we lament the passing of the Matriarch of our Cuban family, Manuela Martinez. Her departure from this earth fills our hearts with a sadness that is only surpassed by the 108 years of loving memories of her unlimited contributions to our family. She sewed for us, cooked for us, taught us how to cook, consoled us, rejoiced with us, crawled on all fours to play with her grandchildren, embraced us, cherished us, laughed and joked with us, reminded us to be grateful for our blessings, and prayed with us and for us – in short she graced each of us with her unconditional love, strength, wisdom and deep faith. 6 children, 18 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren, and extended family will mourn her final breaths but also celebrate the memories of her blessed life with us.

God keep you Mima-Otra (“our other mother” – because she was like another mother to each of us) may your soul rest in peace. We love you, Lynna & Lilah

Once upon a time there was a Cuban Revolution… fast forward to present day “qba” (or “Cu-ba”), where we have Cuban "Evolution".

We are always evolving, as does our food and the way we eat.

at qba, we pay homage to traditional Cuban flavors, while “evolving” and raising the bar on contemporary Cuban cuisine.

As far back as I remember I loved being in the kitchen. Whether it was imitating my elders in my toddler-sized kitchen, assisting my dad in our family kitchen, observing my grandmother, Mima, and her sister, Tia Cary, prepare Noche Buena feasts, or taking culinary classes in New York in between my corporate careers; However, my most influential kitchen period was when I lived with my dad’s sister, Tia Berta.

Tia Berta’s food was the kind of cuisine that you always wanted just a bit more of -- and couldn’t understand why her version was simply better than any others that you’ve ever tasted!! It was the kind of food you could eat hot or cold -without reheating - and still tasted amazing.

That “Mmm, why is that so good??” taste experience is what drives qba’s menu.

It’s no surprise that to achieve that kind of taste experience, we start with the freshest ingredients, cleanest cuts of meat, blend our own spices and make our own marinades. Everything you eat, we make from scratch. Aside from using a pressure cooker, shortcuts are never taken.

Come join our Cuban Evolution!

Gracias, y Buen Provecho!

Lynna
