Buzzwords like “shop local” are overused and have lost meaning over time. Just remember that small businesses are owned by real people, and all of the interactions you have are from the heart. We notice every single order, message, comment, review & acknowledgement. You encourage someone’s dreams when you support small businesses. You help feed their family. I wish the profits were lining our 24k gold pockets, but usually they are just helping us propel forward and keep going. Small businesses support your community - bottom line. We have to support them back. We need community now more than ever. Gift responsibly.✨
Subscriptions on sale now through Monday! 🎁

Taking a moment to appreciate what 4 years of business feels like. It’s not official until May 1, but in 2019 we began our small business journey. 4 insanely fast years later, we’re still proud of what we’re building here. Always evolving & grateful for our flower people along for the ride. A huge thank you to you all. We wouldn’t be Bloom Co. without your support in our weird little space on the internet.
We’ve added a few elements to our business this year, including illustration and freelance flower work. Excited for all the flower people we’ll meet this year. Celebrating all the wins, big & small. Cheers to the next 4! ✌🏻✨💐
Small businesses support your community ❤️
Today we saw incredibly hard-working elementary staff and parents working to make something special for the kids. Popcorn may not seem too exciting on a regular day, but when it’s Popcorn Friday at school you can feel the elevated energy in the building. These moral boosts are so important to our schools - students & staff both! Finding ways to help can be fun & feels so rewarding.
Support small businesses! We understand the nuances of the unique needs for our community. We truly want to make it a better place for all of us. ✨
Sault Ste. Marie Area Public Schools
5 thing you didn’t know about florists ✨
What others would you add?
Here’s a glimpse of what you’re supporting when you support us. It’s more crucial now than ever to research where your money is going & who will be benefitting from your purchase. Small business owners take every purchase to heart & we are thankful for you! There are far less small businesses to support these days & we can’t emphasize enough the importance of their presence in the economy.
Research & support them! Even if it’s an extra step or a little more expensive. ✨
myth: greenery only is cheaper for my wedding
✨
fact: greenery is just as expensive & sought after as flowers, all priced by the stem
Trust that your florist will work with you to achieve your floral dreams, but it does cost something. Even though you know we love what we do. ✨
November is Native American Heritage Month continued ✨
We’re still here.
Anishinaabeg people have lived on
the very same soil we live on now for at least 1,500 years. Sault Ste. Marie claims to be founded in 1668 but we know Bawating (the gathering place)
existed for centuries before Europeans discovered it.
How do you normally treat someone else’s home when you visit? Walking in & telling them it’s your house, when it was actually built, forcing new ways to interact & how to make their food, etc.?
Food for thought: let’s stop claiming the year Europeans “founded” our city & instead carry Anishinaabe traditions & celebrate our interconnectedness & continuum of life. 🖤❤️💛🤍
November is Native American Heritage month ✨
the Ojibwe people are still here & we want to share our culture & relate it to modern day with you
The Seven Grandfather teachings are a set of Anishinaabe guiding principles passed down from generation to generation to guide the Anishinaabe in living a good life in peace and without conflict. Always considering the 7 generations before & after us.
3. Bravery
“Aakwa’ode’ewin”
Face life with courage, and
find inner strength to face the difficulties of life and the courage to be yourself.
We continue even though our idea of business is evolving & we’re often afraid when we take risks. In the end, we trust that these risks will lead us to have the courage to be our authentic selves (in life & business). Bravery is when you’re scared & you do it anyway.
Miigwetch. Stay tuned for more. ✨
November is Native American Hertiage Month…continued ✨
This month we’re relating Seven Grandfather’s teachings in our Ojibwe culture to how we handle business and life in a modern world. We hope to amplify the diversity between Tribes in North America, not just the fact that we’re still here.
2. Respect – “Mnaadendimowin”
Waste little to nothing,
be mindful of the balance of all living things, and
share and give away what you do not need.
In the Ojibwe language there is no word for “please”, only “thank you” - “miigwetch”. We love this because it assumes respect. You deserve to be here, we just need to be grateful and give thanks.
We promote inclusivity & understand that representation matters in our brand. We are grateful for the land that grows our flowers & our flower people that support us.
We are all learning
together. Stay tuned for more. Miigwetch.✨
November is Native American Heritage Month. There are 574 federally recognized tribes in the United States. We are a proud Anishinaabe “original people” family owned business. We are Ojibwe “Chippewa”, we live and work at Baawiting “the gathering place.” We are thankful for the teachings of our Grandmothers and Grandfathers and embrace mino-bimaadiziwin “living well” as a guide for us in life & business.
Dibaadendiziwin “Humility”: This teaching asks us to seek balance within ourselves and with all living things. We seek to live selflessly while embracing our place within our communities.
We are truly a grassroots, DIY, self-determined business. Humility runs deep, as we continuously look for ways to balance nature, community reciprocity and self-sufficiency in our business practices. From collaborations with local farms and artists, to growing a portion of our own flowers and food, to respecting our place as a small, home-based floral studio, we exist proudly and live compassionately alongside all of our relatives. You can’t compete with us because we want you to succeed too.
We will explore more about the Anishinaabe concept of mino-bimaadiziwin and the 7 Grandfather’s teachings throughout the month, not only to celebrate Native American heritage, but to highlight the beautiful differences between Tribes as well as how they apply in the modern world. Let’s recognize the diversity within our Native American Tribes, not just the fact that we’re still here. Stay tuned. Miigwetch. ✨

Today is still Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Words by our own Dave, citizen of the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
When we learn about our country’s past treatment of its Native people, keep in mind that these people are still here today. The atrocities created by colonization have lasting effects for generations. Sharing these tender words in hopes that you can understand how it feels to have your culture taken away, then live the duality of a modern Indigenous person. ✨
