Check out this crazy story about boxing legend Sugar Ray Robinson who had a premonition about killing a man.

It was June 24th, 1947, and the air crackled with anticipation in Cleveland's Municipal Stadium. Sugar Ray Robinson, the reigning welterweight champion and boxing prodigy, was defending his title against Jimmy Doyle, a young, hungry challenger. Robinson, known for his lightning-fast hands and devastating power, was a heavy favorite. But the night before the fight, an unsettling dream plagued him. He saw himself landing a punch that sent Doyle crashing to the canvas, lifeless.

Despite the unsettling premonition, Robinson entered the ring with his usual swagger. Doyle, however, surprised everyone with his tenacity, dodging and weaving, even landing a few solid blows in the sixth round, which left Robinson with a cut over his eye. But Robinson, the seasoned champion, adjusted his strategy, waiting for his opportunity.

In the eighth round, it came. As Doyle lunged forward with a right hook, Robinson slipped inside and unleashed a powerful left hook of his own. The punch landed flush on Doyle's jaw, the impact echoing through the stadium. Doyle crumpled, falling backward and hitting the canvas with a sickening thud. The referee began the count, but it was clear Doyle was unconscious. His corner man threw in the towel, signaling the end of the fight.
He was taken to the hospital, but tragically, never regained consciousness. Seventeen hours later, Jimmy Doyle succumbed to the injuries sustained in the fight.

The news of Doyle's death sent shockwaves through the boxing world. Suga Ray Robinson found out that Doyle was fighting to buy his mom a new home, so Robinson saved the money from his next four fights to buy Doyle's mom a house.

The Sugar Ray Robinson story, forever intertwined with the tragedy of Jimmy Doyle, serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks in the brutal sport of boxing. It's a story not just about athletic prowess and victory, but also about the human cost and the burden of taking a life, even unintentionally, within the ropes.

Salute to today is his farewell show ending a legacy of nearly 30 years on the air and syndicated. I remember listening to Russ on my way to high school I had just start DJing in 96 and he is the first person who made me want to be a personality in addition to being a DJ. Russ is a witty comedic genius who truly is a Hip Hop radio visionary being there from day one at the first radio station dedicated to playing Hip Hop in LA. Fast forward to 2014 when I got my first opportunity to program a radio station Russ Parr was the first person I called to do mornings. I was able to introduce upstate New York to a morning show that I grew up listening to. The end of the Russ Parr morning show is the end of an era that was special to me and so many others. I’m glad gets to see how important he has been over the years to all 50 of his listeners. Good luck and thanks for everything you have done over the years inspiring people like myself. Russ Parr you are truly a living legend.
