Midway update!

Make the World Your Runway by Liris Crosse is truly a must read! Never before has a book made me feel so confident! Liris Crosse has mastered the tools to live a fulfilling and successful life.

She definitely called me out on a bunch of my shenanigans. I never realized how negatively I was treating myself without knowing!

I can’t wait to finish this gem 📚

Her newest book L.O.V.E. is such a fun read. Natalie and Cole have an unbreakable and unexplainable attraction and connection to each other, but they can’t be together. Fate has forced them to confront the past, deal with the present, and face the future.

I can’t wait to discuss this novel with Krissy and learn more about her! 💕

The July lineup! We will be starting the month off with our author feature, The Man Test by Amanda Aksel! The Man Test is a fun and sexy story about a powerful woman with a goal: to prove that all men are will hurt you, but is proven wrong and finds love along the way. This novel is very S*x and the City meets How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days! ✨

Next up, we have Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston .mcquiston ✨ A unique love story that will stay with you long after you read it! A story of rivalry turned into a secret forbidden love in a political setting that is the perfect escape from everything happening in the world today. I read this earlier this year and it’s is the first romance where I was invested in the characters’ relationship. ✨

After that, we will be reading Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens ✨A beautiful coming-of-age story of a girl who survives for years alone among the desolate marshlands of the North Carolina coast and she starts to crave love and touch. Kya knows the dangers of nature and learns the dangers of humans. ✨

We are going to finish July with Circe by Madeline Miller .e.miller ✨ Circe is a powerful story about a girl finding and harnessing her power while trying to find her place in the universe: life among the gods, or life among the mortals. ✨

Go get your books! July is going to be a good one! 💕💕

WE ARE CHANGING THINGS UP!
In June, we are introducing a new theme of reading books about women by female authors AND more genres!

We are kicking June off with a brand new release romance! Beach Read by Emily Henry is so cute and I’ll be posting my review on June 7th.

Then we will be reading a thriller novel!! The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat! Starting June 8th and posting the review on June 14th.

Next is a new historical fiction novel. The Giver of Stars by Jojo Moyes is such a touching novel about innovative women. We will start this one on June 15th and reviewing on the 21st.

Finally, we will cap off June with a contemporary fiction novel! Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a moving story of resilience and tolerance in post 9/11 America.

I can’t wait to see what you choose! 💕

BOOK REVIEW: Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore

“Dogs and books, two excellent defenses against solitude and despair.”

Its hard to explain exactly how much I loved this book. I never wanted it to end! Oona’s crazy circumstances scramble her adult life in a way that you would think is unlivable, but she guides her way through it by leaving herself letters of advice, encouragement, and support.

I don’t know what exactly I was expecting, but this book turned out to be so much more than anything I could have expected. It made me feel a newfound respect and appreciation for life. Not knowing what is going to happen in my future never seemed so awesome!

Oona’s story is a unique portrayal of time travel and what it means to be an adult. The things she struggles with are things so many people struggle with: How do I fit into my life around me? She is constantly disconnected with her body and surroundings, which is exactly what it’s like to age. The constant question asking “is this normal?” Her friends are present in parts of her life and not present in others is something most readers can relate to.

The giant reveal at the end was something I wasn’t expecting at all, but it makes so much sense! (No spoilers here!)

I give this novel 4.5 stars. It’s currently my favorite IDB Book Club pick and it’s one I will hold with me forever. Such a fun read and thought-provoking!

✨BOOK REVIEW: All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven✨

Oh, jeez....where to start? I absolutely loved this book. What a quotable novel! This was a great book to follow The Two Lives of Lydia Bird by Josie Silver because both novels illustrate the relationship between love and tragedy in two very different ways. One about dealing with the aftermath and the other about experiencing it in the moment.

I connected very strongly to the story and characters in All the Bright Places. Violet was a girl who used to be popular and cool, but now she just keeps to herself as she mourns the death of her sister. (Theodore) Finch is a trouble-maker known as Theodore Freak and struggles with depression and anxiety. Death fascinates him and haunts her. Their lives collide and are changed forever.

Pairing up to complete a class project, they explore the wonders of their seemingly unremarkable state of Indiana and fall in love with each other along the way. As Finch helps Violet out of her hole, he digs deeper into his.

From the outside, their relationship may look like any teenage love story, but to them it was nothing but exquisite.

This book reminded me to stop and appreciate the world around me and explore as much as possible. That love is beautiful and fragile. Love does not save people, but it does make life the most beautiful. This novel reminded me to reach out to my friends and to spread love wherever I go.

Su***de is a strong theme throughout the narrative. Be there for your friends even if they seem okay. We need to be each other’s safety net.

Overall, I rate this novel 4.5 stars! Definitely a book that will stick with me!

Favorite quote: “It’s not what you take, but what you leave.”

Good afternoon, readers!

I am so excited to post my review of All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven today! Stay tuned!

Tomorrow we are starting Oona Out of Order by Margarita Montimore! This one is not a romance, but I’m so excited to read and discuss it! Sometimes life can be confusing, but especially so for Oona who, on the eve of her 19th birthday, wakes up 32 years in the future in her 51-year-old body. Each year of her life, she jumps to a different age and time.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Hello to all new members! Check out our past posts to see what the I Do Bridal Book Club is up to!

The novel for this week is a young adult romance called All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven and let me tell you....it is so beautiful. I’m only halfway and the beginning is very depressing, but then the whole tone shifts and now my heart feels like it’s flying. This coming of age novel contains content about depression, su***de, tragedy, bullying, friendship, family, and love. If you feel triggered while reading this, please please please feel free to reach out! Most of you know me, but for those who don’t, my name is Jennifer and I’m happy you’re here.

I am so excited to finish it up and see what you feel about it (or probably highly recommend it for you to read).

Happy reading!

QUESTION OF THE DAY:

If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?

My answer:

I would choose Rick Deckard from Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (AKA Blade Runner)

He’s a bounty hunter and lives in a crazy futuristic dystopian society!
