Sierra wanted her bridal bouquet to be full of texture with a variety of foliages, flowers, and vines. It included grevillea, garden roses, wax flower, hypericum, gerbera, ammi, scabiosa pods, stock, frosted explosion grass, snapdragons, heptacodium bracts, mums, snowberry, lisianthus, zinnias, celosia, ranunculus, honeysuckle, variegated Italian buckthorn, and jasmine vines. And thanks to the last of the season’s dahlias 🧡

After an inspiring talk by Jess Buttermore I had the opportunity to embrace the language of flowers. These thank you bouquets that I made for included: carnations for happiness and joy, rosemary for remembrance, lisianthus for appreciation, pink roses for gratitude, yellow for friendship, ferns for sincerity, laurel for success, mums for happiness and joy, and stock to represent affection.

It is said that a wreath is a symbol of everlasting life but for me it’s so much more. It’s memories of chilly mornings gathering materials, arranging buckets and piles of winter treasure, the different textures and greens of a variety of conifers, the smell of evergreens, Christmas music playing, hot cups of tea, friends arriving excited to get started, counting and recounting bundles on the table, and the final “ta da” as a finished wreath is lifted up and admired. Thank you to everyone that came to make wreaths with me this year. You made my holiday complete. 62 wreaths later I’m ready to tidy it all up and be finished for the year (but wait, what about those mossy branches for January’s doors?)
