Those who are close to me know that I abhor talking about politics, especially online. I think it's unprofessional to share your political views at your place of business because you'll inevitably alienate the other side no matter what you do, so I tend not to say anything at all. But the time to be quiet is over, and truthfully I should have spoken up long ago.
I wish I could bring myself to say "happy 4th," but honestly I'm terribly disappointed in this country. I have a constant pit of fear in my stomach every time I turn on the TV or look at social media, living in a state of fight or flight almost constantly, wondering what horrible thing is going to happen next.
I'm scared for my friends and family who were born in other places.
I'm scared for anyone on Medicare or Medicaid about to lose their insurance, including me and my own family.
I'm scared for anyone who practices a different religion other than Christianity.
I'm scared for anyone who's not in a sis heterosexual relationship, or anyone who feels like they don't belong in the skin they were born in.
I'm scared for the future we are leaving our children. Is this the world we want to live in? Is this the legacy we're willing to be remembered by?
Most people are numb from the constant barrage of information, not sure what to do or what to believe. THIS IS INTENTIONAL. They want us frozen and confused so we don't organize together and rise up against them.
It's not a time to celebrate. It's time to fight back. We need to do better, America.
