Have y’all been shopping all the dahlia sales?! I caved and got a few specialty tubers a few days ago with the hopes of propagating them ASAP for a few more plants this summer. One of my 2025 goals is to practice dahlia seed saving to see if I can grow anything new and special. I’m really looking forward to that experiment because that is an area of farming that is uncharted (unchartered?) territory for me.
Here are some new additions I ordered from :
✨ Jowey Paula
✨ Jowey Linda
✨ Snoho Doris
✨ Linda’s Baby
✨ Pink Pearl
… and one Cornel Bronze because mine didn’t survive the move and he’s just classic.

Anyway… I love this dahlia heavy bridal bouquet for this past fall and can’t wait to start planting dahlias!

This wedding was a SURPRISE to all of the family and friends in attendance who thought they were attending an engagement party. BEST surprise ever!! But also terrifying as a vendor because I didn’t want to be the person who said the wrong thing and ruined it..
The gorgeous bride and her now husband have supported my business for years and it was an absolute honor to do their wedding flowers. We went colorful and bloom heavy in the height of dahlia season and lined the mantel and reception tables with floral filled pieces. This was also a *crazy* weather day but everything calmed in time for their ceremony and they were able to get pictures in the enchanting gardens of .
The cherry on top was working with who coordinated the event. We have a history of working together in wind storms and we survived another one together with less floral casualties than the previous.

✨ Top contender for Favorite Bridal Bouquet of All Time! When a bride wants a BIG bouquet, I’m more than happy to oblige 💕 This was my first time reflexing tulips in a bridal bouquet (I think🤔) and it really set it off.
What’s your favorite flower in this bouquet?!

✨Flashback to warmer days and 100% local floral design ✨ Winter is an inspiration-heavy season for me… since I can’t be in the garden I look for it in other ways, like books, documentaries, seed catalogues. Yesterday, I watched Floret Season 2 ( ) and it truly filled my cup. It was beautiful and thoughtful and real and I loved it so much. It was encouraging and grounding as I continue to plan for and dream about Eden Roots’ future. I believe so strongly in the value and necessity of creating beauty and stewarding whatever pieces of land we can and I am forever grateful that I get to do it 💕

If you haven’t watched it, I totally recommend checking it out during this season of tumultuous weather.

🪻 38 years old today 🪻

Thankful for this life and the people I get to share it with. Can’t think of a better way to celebrate than digging in the dirt and planting sweet peas with my babies with the sun shining down.

I’m direct seeding “Bobby’s Girl” sweet peas down the middle of this bed, planting cliveden blue delphinium that I soil blocked down the sides and will then direct seed orlaya throughout. If it works, it will be gorgeous. I don’t think I’ve ever direct sown sweet peas so I’m living on the edge!

Every week I get two 3 hour chunks of time to work on my work. Spending some of those chunks in the greenhouse is balm for the soul ☺️ If you’re a gardener farmer, what seeds are you starting now?

I’ve got some news to share…

After a 2.5 years of pouring my heart and soul into helping build The Kentucky Flower Market, that chapter has come to an end. My goal from the beginning was to increase revenue for local flower farmers while providing a streamlined process for floral designers to access high quality specialty cut flowers. Boy did this turn out to be an under taking - but we did it! Thank you to every customer and grower who has participated with the market in some way during my time there! I have been so blessed by this community and by the friendships made. I did not anticipate the magnitude of how meaningful those relationships would become over the years.

I also want to thank the team at for all of their mentorship, support and education from day one, when the market was just an idea. It was a joy working with you all and I will be cheering you on as you continue to grow!

So what’s next?! I am looking forward to gaining some time back to focus on my farm, which has been a smidge neglected during my KFM days. Heck, maybe I’ll open up my wedding design calendar for 2025! I would love for you to follow along as I re-establish Eden Roots in its forever home. I’ve got many, many plans and will be planting like crazy this fall but ultimately I’m prioritizing my family ❤️

And for all things KFM, follow as Kayla continues to push the mission forward! Go give them some love!
