This is what happens when your greenhouse furnace suddenly decides not to run through the night... Sleepover in the flower shop for the most precious babies including our Monstera Thai Constellation!
Our whole shop smells like propane instead of flowers. Hopefully the repair will be completed soon!

I woke up feeling kind of crabby today, but when I got to work the first thing I saw was that we had gotten another 5 star review. This definitely helped!

This was the review:
As always… Boynton’s Greenhouse exceeds expectations- both in quality and especially in service! They always ensure perfection! The plant I had ordered this time was not available - actually it was available but they called to tell me the ones they had were not in bloom. (I have ordered this same plant from another florist and they just sent the plain one without blooms - not Boynton’s)!!!

They called and we talked through options and the suggestions they made were BETTER than my original plan. They then delivered locally/same day- even though I had missed the cutoff and the delivery run had already gone. They made another run and the recipient was thrilled - they made her smile through the grief of losing her husband. I am so grateful and will always call Boynton’s first for my Maine family deliveries! Thank you!

True confession: I took this post word for word from my fellow florist/friend in Waterville The Robin's Nest. I couldn't have said this more perfectly myself, so I will give credit where credit is due and repeat it!

From the Robin's Nest:
With a BIG floral holiday coming right up this info is more important than EVER!!
Do not order flowers from order gatherers, they overcharge and underdeliver. They are not florists, they are NOT in your neighborhood.
They are call centers who take your order and call local florists to attempt to get them to fill your order. They take a LARGE cut of your order along with extra, unnecessary fees. By the time that they get a local florist to take your order they’ve kept such a large portion of your order that the local florist doesn’t have enough money to fill your order to the value that you are expecting.
How can you avoid order gatherers?
When searching for a florist take the time to check maps, find out if the florist you searched is listed and has a real address before placing your order. If you call them listen to the noise in the background, does it sound like a call center?
Read reviews, ask someone you know for a recommendation of a local florist. Avoid the disappointment that ordering from one of these companies will result in.

Okay - back to Boynton's Greenhouse Skowhegan. This is a huge problem for florists all across the country. We're pretty much all small businesses, your brick and mortar store trying to survive in the world of internet sales. These order gatherers are predatory businesses. They pay Google and other search engines a ton of money to be listed first. Even when you specifically type Boynton's into your search bar, the first florist that comes up is Ava's. We get calls all the time where the customer says "I'm looking at yourt website right now," but they're not. They have been misdirected to Ava's. So please be careful. This week's weather looks like it's going to be crazy. That makes us start worrying about next week. Every florist is praying right now that the weather will be good on Valentine's Day and the days leading up to it. When we get storms on the 12th, 13th & 14th of February, it messes up everything!
If a bad storm happens on Valentine's Day itself, that is the worst. We normally have over 200 deliveries going out that day, but that won't happen in a blizzard. If we find out ahead of time that bad weather is coming, we will try to get as many deliveries out as humanly possible on the 13th.
We just want you all to know, we will do everything we can to make your Valentine's special, but there are things we can't control - like the weather. Flowers a day early may not be considered ideal, but we hope that you agree, it's far better than flowers a day late or not at all!
We have to accept the fact that this holiday comes in the snowiest part of winter when you live in central Maine! If problems occur, we will do our best. Please understand. Thank you to all of you for your business, support and patience!

I spoke with you today to order a plant for a grieving widow in Madison- a second mom to me who is so important in my life. I initially ordered a Peace plant- but because you CARE, you called me to tell me the plant you had were not in bloom. And you offered the suggestion of a garden arrangement.
I asked for delivery today but totally understood I was too late and had just missed the Madison delivery run.
Well, you made it happen anyway. Thank you to your delivery person and to you for making this happen today! My second mom was thrilled and so touched by the beautiful arrangement.
I have ordered flowers several times for her through your shop and every time it is perfect. Today you went above and beyond and you should know that your kindness, expertise, and true empathy were so appreciated.

Here's a little known fact. Men like to give their loved ones red roses because THEY like red roses. They see it as the grand romantic gesture from the movies. It can be. There's no doubt that roses are beautiful and people around the world love them.
But here's another little known fact. Some women might want something a little different this Valentine's Day. They secretly yearn for plants, more plants... all the plants!
If you're one of these women, what would you think of this? A simple arrangement in a cute pot, a plant mister bottle, some slow release fertilizer and a gift certificate to your favorite local greenhouse! It's satisfying on so many levels. Your guy gets to give you the romantic red roses and you get what you really want!

It's Time! The Winter Farmer's Market will be here (Greenhouse #4) this Saturday, Feb 1st! The winter market is here at Boynton's on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month from 10 to 1. Hey People! I'm officially naming today "Treat Yourself Tuesday!" I think these cold winter days are the perfect excuse you need (not that you should need an excuse!) to treat yourself to a bunch of tulips or any other of our fresh flowers. Don't wait for someone to give you a surprise. Surprise yourself with how great you feel every time you sniff a noseful of joy in a vase! Let's start a trend!

It's time to talk about Valentine's Day! We sell more flowers on Valentine's Day than any other day of the year, in fact we sell more flowers in three days (the 12th, 13th & 14th) than in the entire month of January! In order to fulfill that many orders in that short span of time, we have to make some concessions. If you are expecting to give or receive flowers for Valentine's Day, please read this post and pass it on!

1. If you want something delivered in Skowhegan or the surrounding area on Valentine's Day - February 14th - You must place your order absolutely no later than 4pm on February 13th. If you call or come in on the 14th we will sell you flowers to take with you but we will not take an order for delivery. There will be NO exceptions!

2. We cannot guarantee a specific time for your delivery. Having said that, we know that schools let out shortly after 2pm, so we will make sure your flowers are delivered before that.

3. In order to get as many deliveries out in the shortest amount of time, we have a plan and we have to stick to it.

1st priority are all schools and businesses in Skowhegan.

2nd priority is all schools and businesses in surrounding towns.

3rd priority is private homes in Skowhegan - these will mostly go AFTER noon unless we can route them with a run to schools or businesses.

4th priority is private homes out of town. We will attempt to route these with our out of town school and business deliveries, but if there isn't enough room in the vehicle or the home is too far away, they will go later. That can be as late as 4, 5 or even 6pm! If that isn't acceptable, we ask that you plan to pick the flowers up yourself or have them delivered the day before.

We are much more flexible than this in our daily, non-holiday business lives. We hope you all understand that the exceptional amount of business we do in a very short period make these rules absolutely necessary in order to give the best possible service to the largest amount of customers.
