Switching from summer flowers to fall arrangements and decorative squash. The season end is quickly approaching so get one before they’re gone!

These cold nights are a time of transition here in the farm. The flowers are winding down but the fall crops are ready and cool crops are thriving. I’ll have unwrapped bunches of flowers while they last, but am now offering dried flower bunches and squash for autumn decorating. Plus a random assortment of veggies. Get them while they last!

Finish your Labor Day by grabbing some produce (cucumbers, zucchini, tomatillos, shish*to peppers, decorative squash) or fall flowers at the farm stand today. If you’re enjoying the last day of the Evergreen State Fair, the farm is easy to swing by when you’re done, if you’re heading what. Open until dark.

I’ve been lax on my socials after vacation, but the season isn’t over yet! Stop by today and grab a bouquet with some of the last sunflowers of the season. Soon I’ll have sunflower seed heads available for purchase to feed birds in the cold months.

Just a pink rainbow hanging out over the greenhouse. 90 degrees isn’t ideal for seedlings and cold loving flowers but I’m hoping it brings an early dahlia season.

I’m a couple weeks later than usual getting dahlias in the ground and they were obviously anxious to get out of storage! 55 dahlias are in and I have space for 66 so I may need to hit a tuber sale….😈

April is the month of change. In one day we can experience sun, hail, rain, wind, frost and thunder. And all things begin to grow. Looking forward to the day I can open the flower stand….

Happy Winter Solstice! Looking forward to warmer days, but appreciating the beautiful 22 degree snowy morning because it is better than the usual dreary gray days that are the norm in the PNW.

Last night’s first frost of the season was a killing frost, which means as soon as these blooms defrost, all the color on the farm will be gone until spring. But that doesn’t mean the end of growing season, as the cool crops are sending roots into the ground and getting a head start for spring.

Flower season may be at an end, but that didn’t stop me from drying a bunch of flowers to make wreaths! I even used my own grapevines. Takes some pre-planning to ensure that the vines and flowers get harvested and dried before the rain arrives, but I’m pretty pleased with the result.

Air quality is a refreshing 129 this morning on another day in The Summer That Will Not End saga. Normally, the cool damp October causes all the cool flower seeds to sprout and get going before the cold dark days set in so they bloom early in the spring, but they’re really struggling this year. Just going to enjoy the remaining flower days and not stress about whether things grow well over the winter. In this area of climate change, resilience, sustainable and adaptable are going to be my key words.

Harvested all the celosia today and am hanging it together dry. I’ll have plenty of flowers for dried wreath and posey making! Now to start cutting down all the gomphrena… 🍁🍂

My heart is heavy seeing the ash from old growth forest falling from the sky. My farm is many miles away so there is no risk to me, but seeing the effects of climate change in my own backyard is heartbreaking. Gen X has been sounding the alarm since we were in high school enviro club and now here we are, crying that no one was listening.

I was in Costa Rica for 17 days and while I was gone the zinnias went from seedlings to blooming! Hope to have the farm stand open tomorrow with lots of 🌻.

This has been a bad year for flowers with the cold, wet weather, but the 12 + peonies I planted a couple years ago are getting their first blooms! I can only cut a handful for bouquets so if you want one, message me!

I’m finding myself obsessed with soil blocking this year. 72 purple broccoli seeds planted 48 hours ago are sprouting. Now I’m going to need to find space amongst the flowers for all these! Time to expand the garden footprint, perhaps?

200 stock seedlings sprouting in soil blocks. So excited to try this method as it will eliminate my use of plastic! So far, so good.
