Yesterday was a beautiful day to remember a families loss. Baby Bennett was born sleeping. 💙His parents wanted to celebrate him. They wrote letters and took flowers to be sent out to sea.
There was even a special pup that joined us with his owner who did not know the family. The Golden Retriever was so interested in the urn that he had to come say hello! This was very fitting as the family has a love for dogs. They even have six at home 🐶
The weather was sunny yet chilly and it could not have been a more perfect day! The family & friends that showed their love and support was beautiful. I felt very honored to be apart of this day for the family.
Baby B was a beautiful little boy. I had the privilege to photograph him for the family when he was born. The memories I was able to give the family of the love they shared will forever by in their hearts and mine!
With the families permission I am able to share this special moment with all of you! 💙

I would like to take a moment talk about a photography practice that is hard for most to understand. It’s called Bereavement Photography.

What is bereavement photography?
Shannon D's Photography sessions are crafted specifically for each family's individual needs. Great care is taken in working closely with the families.

NEWBORNS: complications during pregnancy and/or delivery, stillborn infants

CHILDREN & ADULTS: terminal illness, special needs that make family photos difficult, cancer, loss of life

Shannon D's Photography is a support program for families of babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) or an Adult/child going through a long-term hospital stay and/or illness.

Our goal is to give hope during their entire stay in the hospital or NICU. We accomplish this with the use of professional lenses, low aperture photography, beautiful lighting, and by focusing on the beauty and humanity of each individual in our photos. We find hope during a time where some days it is hard to see it. When families see the back of our camera and gasp at how beautiful their family member is, we know we have accomplished what we have set out to do.
Unlike regular hospital photography, We will capture their journey from the very start. We also provide progress photos for children & adults going through a long-term hospital stay with cancer, transplants, or other long-term illnesses.

- Every family receives a digital gallery within 10-12 days of their session to download and keep forever
- All photo sessions are FREE of charge to the family and the hospital
- SDP is not intended to replace regular newborn hospital photography programs and do not conflict with that model of business
- We are a nonprofit and rely on donations from the public and local businesses.
