Note to self:
Healthy, well adjusted people don’t set out to hurt other people.

Read that again if you need to.

Healthy, well adjusted people don’t hurl insults at others.

They don’t blame other people for the issues in their life.

They don’t set out to cause harm and pain.

Healthy, well adjusted people show empathy.

Damaged and angry people don’t.

Healthy, well adjusted people are happy for others. Know the importance of having a circle of support around them. They know that life is hard and people screw up but they show grace and have a heart of forgiveness.

Damaged and angry people project. They look for fights and reasons to be offended and put out. Everything is a conflict and they don’t see any redeeming qualities. Jealousy clouds their judgement.

Listen to me.

You’ll never win against them. Being a broker of peace to dysfunctional people will do nothing but deplete your energy and break your heart. SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!

You’re not dealing with logical people.

You’re dealing with their unresolved trauma, addictions, excuses and regrets.

My pastor said this today and it struck me so profoundly. “Where God isn’t, love isn’t.”

Stop looking for logic from illogical people.

Healthy resolution from people who turn to the bottle or drugs or any other damaging coping mechanisms.

We’re called to be understanding, gracious, forgiving and kind.

We’re also given discernment to know when to walk away and not be a doormat for bad behavior and abuse.

Pray for them.

Love them from afar.

Not everyone deserves a seat at your table.

Surround yourself with people who are loving, forgiving, who pray for you, who speak life into you, challenge you lovingly and hold you accountable.

Not everyone is for you.

Where God is, love is.

Why do we do what we do? What drives us to share all the amazing events, people, and places we enjoy. Experiencing life, and sucking the marrow from it is the reason. Living for the future is as silly as living for the past. Today is all we have, and the moment is the only guarantee in life. If you aren't enjoying the breath you just took and the moments that made up the day... change it.
