Olive Tree Tune Up!! đđŤ Do you have an ailing Olive Tree? Did you know they LOVE full sun? Our Olive Tree was losing so many leaves inside our building and I couldnât tell when it wanted water! It was so ugly, I took it outside in the parking lot and was done with it! It sat there for several weeks (from first of June) and I realized it was looking happier in the heat and sun! (It received rain and I watered it!) So here is what I learned! Olive Trees love as much direct light as they can get inside! Air movement is a plus so an overhead fan is good to make their limbs stronger, and they like to be watered and not to dry! They like plant food and they donât want to go very dry!
If you have a struggling Olive Tree, take it outside until Fall frost! Not direct full sun immediately, but gradually do half sun and half shade and then after a few days, go for the sun! Water daily with this heat! Adding a little blue soluble plant food (miracle grow) to the water would be great for faster growth!! When you bring it inside before frost, it will drop a ton of leaves. This is from the shock but it will stabilize after a few weeks! Keep it in a bright window and water when dirt is 2 inches dry from the top. Allow the water to drain all the way through to the saucer and let the Olive drink the remaining water in the tray!
Hope this helps! Let us know if you have a struggling tree or a revived tree!
Have a great Wednesday!đ

Mark and Cindy Hillenburgâs Landscape
Mark and Cindy Hillenburg have created their own little oasis out in their backyard! Itâs all about food, fun, and fellowship! They entertain their two grown children, Skyler and Barrett along with their spouses and all of their eleven grandchildren! They also entertain their extended families on both sides for holidays and fun! Mark and Cindy also love to have their small group from church come over monthly in the Fall until it gets too dark outside! This yard is definitely all about sitting in the swings under the pergola in cooler temps and circling around the outdoor fireplace in the Fall! Mark and Cindy have a common love for plants indoors and outdoors! They say the yard is definitely a group effort! Their grandson mows on Thursday evenings and Mark and Cindy take turns with the watering! Their stacks and stacks of 7 cords of wood are impressive! Mark says itâs questionable on the size of a âcord of woodâ so he stays out of the particulars! The layered wood creates a beautiful outline of their yard, gives boundaries for the shrubs, and provides added texture! Itâs important to keep the stacked wood directly off the ground! This allows for air flow, the wood to stay dry, and keeps away a pests!
Wow, thank you Mark and Cindy for entertaining us with your fun stories!
I have personally known Mark and Cindy for over thirty five years and they are a testament to loving hospitality to so many people through the years!
Fun fact: Markâs Dad, George Hillenburg, worked at SCHAFFITZELâS greenhouse when he was in high school in the 1960âs! Cindy Hillenburg
Have a great Sunday everyone!

Joe and Shannon Reynolds Landscape
My brother Joe, his wife Shannon, and their daughter Caroline have done a phenomenal job planting, watering, and maintaining their gorgeous summer containers at their Southern Hills home. Joe and Shannon lived around the corner for 22 years raising their five children before they purchased this beautiful home 2 years ago. It has a mature landscape with tall Cedars, Walnut trees and Pecan trees just to name a few but also the home had been beautifully landscaped by the previous owner Denise several years ago! Joe and Shannon have been diligent in maintaining the new landscape with all of the Arborvitaes, Boxwoods, Azaelas, Oakleaf Hydrangeas, Standard Hydrangeas, Japanese Maples, Junipers, ornamental grasses, ground covers such as the creeping Jenny and Joeâs favorite, the perennial Coreopsis!
They are adamant to continue the beauty of the planted containers previously planted by a professional gardener while Denise lived in the home! We love the evergreen trees they used as a focal point in the flower pots because they look fabulous all winter long way after the annuals have faded and have been pulled! As the new homeowners, Joe and Shannon have learned when to cut back perennials, prune shrubs, check for bagworms, keep an eye out for fungus, replace plants due to disease, water continually, pull weeds, and keep up the mulch around the landscape! They have always enjoyed yard work and had beautiful flowers planted at their old home but on a much smaller scale. They have fallen in love with gardening! Shannon and Caroline, both camera shy, planted their edible garden in the back yard out behind the decorative wood walls! I meant to get a glimpse of that! With lots of colors through the annuals, hard work, and the landscapers rule of thumb to include the four colors in the landscape, red, blue, yellow, and green, Joe and Shannon, you have a gorgeous landscape! Thanks for letting us take a tour and walk around with you! The last song in the video is âBicycle Buil
Back Road Relics Antiques in Bolivar, Missouri has set up shop in the beautiful old Stephenâs Photography Studio!
Crystal, the new shop owner, has reinvented the amazing space with vintage finds and home decor! She wallpapered walls and exposed the hard wood flooring as well as the tin ceilings! Many folks have so many memories of having their family pictures taken here but come check out the remodeled space and find some special treasures and cool finds!
My cousin Sarah, my niece Caroline, my sister-in-law Shannon, our daughter Ruthie, and I found some tables and chairs. Afterwards, we ate at Kathyâs Italian and the newest owner of the Restaurant, Iris, gave me a tour of her new space for fine dining called Savour!

Amy & Jim Boydâs Home & Landscape
Amy has a European feel to her landscape using primarily beautiful boxwood spheres, hydrangeas, and evergreens! The tall Taylor Junipers in the back or the Alaskan weeping Cedar and the Bald Cypress in the front are gorgeous focal points as well as the arched Skyrocket Junipers as her back centerpiece! Jim and Amy planted the Bald Cypress in the front and it looses its leaves every fall! Her green and white palette is very peaceful!
The espaliers on the privacy fence are Crabapple trees trained to grow flat and show beautiful color in the spring with their blooms!
The two clump trees on either side of the sunroom are Birch trees: one being a White Birch and the other a Dura Heat Birch tree. Both resemble the Heritage Birch tree.
The Boston Ivy is covering her painted white brick in the front. Boston Ivy isnât harmful like English Ivy. It has tree frog like sticky pads to hold on to the wall!
I love how she has pruned up the canopies of her evergreen trees and Maple tree so she can plant below them.
The two evergreens in the wooden containers in front of the garage doors are Degroots Spire Arborvitaes and the two pruned evergreens on either side of the frontyard steps are Woodwardii Arborvitaes.
There is a lot of winter interest here with her evergreens but she also has beautiful Spring blooming purple perennials and Allium bulbs, gorgeous Summer hydrangea blooms, and her Autumn interest is with the Fall foliage that turns red and yellow on her trees and shrubs!
The fabulous stone walkway in the backyard was created and laid by the talented Myron Royce landscape.
Jim and Amy rent out their darling apartment above the garage as a long term Airbnb for traveling nurses and needed the stone pathway to be smooth
and to lead from the drive to the garage! Amy plans on landscaping around it now thatâs itâs complete!Myron Royce Gardens
What a gorgeous landscape Amy and Jim! Thanks for letting me stop by!

To keep geraniums tidy all summer, itâs a good idea to deadhead the spent flowers. And the best part is that by doing this youâll encourage more blooms! How to deadhead geraniumsâ
⢠When the geranium blooms are done and dried, simply follow the stem from the flower head to where the stem meets the leafy branch.
⢠Youâll feel a knobby node at the base of the flower stem. Using your thumb and forefinger, grasp the node and snap the stem sideways as shown. The stem should break off cleanly right at the node.
⢠You can also snip them off with a scissors or pruners, but usually they break off easier by hand.
Hope this helps! Have a great Monday!

The Beetles are everywhere! In this case , itâs the June Bug which has a cute name but they can do a lot of damage to your plants! Spray in the early morning or the evening! Donât spray in full sun!
Mike used the (3 in 1) Insect, Disease, and Mite Control spray by BioAdvanced!
Itâs a buggy year with our rain and the humidity! July is the month to treat and feed your plants! The June Bugs are devouring our hydrangeas, the Bag Worms are hanging out in our Evergreens, the Tomato Hornworms are eating our tomatoes and the slugs and other bugs are making holes in our leaves! Oh, and the Japanese Beetles love our Boston Ivy!
Our ferns need greening up with the Magnesium Sulfate and our annuals are tired! They need to be watered with the Peters Plant Food! (Similar to Miracle Gro!)
We have all of supplies available in the greenhouse! We definitely have smaller bags of the plant food! See stories for Mike spraying the Limelight Hydrangea!
Remember to spray early in the morning or the evening before the pollinators arrive!
Have a great Saturday!

With Spring season behind us in the greenhouse, itâs now time to give our own landscape some attention! Weeds are everywhere, annuals are waiting to be planted here at the end of June, dead shrubs need to be removed, and trees & shrubs need to be planted!
The Boston Ivy is growing over the windows and the Boxwoods are looking very shaggy!
Mike and I spent 3 weeks getting this place back into shape! đ¤ŞđĽľNow itâs time to feed the plants and continue to do our consistent daily watering!đŚWe water by hand because everything seems to have different watering needs! Containers will take water everyday in this July heat!â¤ď¸đ¤đ Hydrangeas with yellow leaves means they need more water!
I pruned back the boxwoods but keeping them wet daily helps with the browning on top! I removed the seed heads from the lilies so they give more energy to the bulb and cutting back the petunias will keep them from looking leggy!
Itâs a never ending task in the landscape but one of the most rewarding things you can ever do! Give the garden 20 minutes a day and you wonât believe the outcome!
We would love to see your pictures of your flowers, landscape, or garden! Post them on our Facebook post!!đ

Emerald Greens, Rosemary, Bubblegum Petunias, and Eugenias make up our middle flower bed. The Emerald Greens will stay there as they only get between 8-10 feet tall and 3 feet wide! They will create a nice green hedge which will eventually hide the division of the fan and the plastic wall. The Eugenias and the Rosemary plants will get transplanted because they canât survive our winters!
When considering what to plant in front,
I remembered that the Hydrangea would lose all of its leaves this fall and keep the wall behind it exposed!
Have a great Sunday!
