Mike and I were at my brother and sister-in-law’s house and they just pulled all of their beautiful summer flowers!
What do you do with your containers after all of the pretty annuals have been pulled? Do you keep the containers empty for the winter months? Is there anything that could be planted now?
These are some of the most popular questions we get at this time of year!
KEY ADVICE: Plant small Evergreens in your empty containers that are zones 3 or 4! Springfield is labeled for Zone 6/6b so anything from zone 3 or 4 and even zone 5 can tolerate our cold winters planted above ground!
I found a video from the Spring talking about evergreens and every one of these would work for a container! They won’t grow to the same size as the tag in a container but you can transplant them after a few years or the next Spring in the ground. We have had some of our evergreens on the front porch of Schaffitzel’s planted in a container for over 10 years! They are the Sun-kissed Arborvitaes and Blue Point Junipers!
That’s a start anyway and there are several other options we will talk about later but planted evergreens are our favorite!! We will pick out evergreens for these containers and walk you through the process!
Have a great Monday!
