I don't know about the rest of you, but I was curious what the responsibilities were for each position. So after a Google search, I found the below descriptions for each elected office:
Sheriff: The Sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer in the county and is the Constitutional authority for the Office of the Sheriff. The Sheriff may appoint deputies to act on his/her behalf and they have the same arresting powers.
Clerk of Court: The Clerk of Court is the chief administrative officer for the court and is responsible for the management and application of court resources. Position includes authority over service to the public, financial performance, staffing, budgets, and case processing systems. Clerk monitors procedures to provide high quality customer service, comply with law, and meet needs of court and criminal justice agencies.
Commissioner of Revenue: The Commissioner of Revenue is in charge of assessing property, income and license taxes. They also collect and audit tax returns, and are required to keep an accurate accounting of all delinquent tax accounts.
Treasurer: The duty of the Treasurer is to receive all local income and personal property taxes and other monies owed to the Commonwealth and no later than August 1 produce a list of all taxes and revenue that have remained uncollected. A Treasurer may only deposits public funds into a qualified public depository.
School Board: Members establish the vision and goals for the public schools in their district, and they set standards for the performance of schools and superintendents. Most school board members are elected by people in their community to represent their values, views, and desires for the public schools in their district.
Board of Supervisors: Board of Supervisors establishes county government policy, passes resolutions and ordinances (within the limits of its authority established by the Virginia General Assembly), approves the budget, sets local tax rates, approves land use plans and makes appointments to various positions.
Commonwealth Attorney: The primary duty of each commonwealth's attorney is to prosecute all felonies and misdemeanors charged under the Code of Virginia occurring in his or her locality. In other states, this position is often named "district attorney" or "state's attorney."
Soil & Water Director: Identifies soil and water issues and opportunities within the district or related to the district and establish priorities for addressing these issues
