We are excited that 2019 will see the 13th annual Templeton Ragtime and Jazz Festival branching out even further then ever before, while Classic and Contemporary Ragtime will still maintain a strong presence in the proceedings. Supplying much of the Ragtime sounds will be first-time performer Larisa Migachyov, originally from Russia but now residing in CA. She’ll perform classics of Joplin and others, along with examples of her own compositions: she is hailed as the most prolific female composer of rags in history and has a truly poetic, flowing touch on the keys. Twelve-fingered phenom Martin Spitznagel returns with his virtuosic, fiery renditions of stride, novelty and ragtime showpieces from the likes of Eubie Blake, Zez Confrey and others. The Classic Jazz Trio, featuring Dave Bennett on clarinet, Jeff Barnhart on piano and Hal Smith on drums, will wow audiences with their swinging tribute to Benny Goodman, among others. Finally, Dave Bennett will put down the clarinet and romp through some early Rock&Roll blues piano a la Mississippi native Jerry Lee Lewis and others, accompanied by Hal on the drums. Of course, there will again be plenty of opportunity for our pianists to “go at it” with two-piano, four-hand showstoppers. Ragtime and Early Jazz will share this year’s stage with Blues, Swing and early Rock&Roll to provide something for everyone!
