Waving a broom over the heads of a couple while marrying was meant to ward off spirits. The ritual was practiced during the 1800s in the Southern United States when they were not permitted to wed legally. It is still a highly regarded part of the ceremony in African-American culture today!

When it comes to having a stylish wedding, there's more to decor than you know! One issue a lot of brides have is that they want a dream venue, but fail to consider the decor budget when they book it. Wedding design/decor should be a large part of your budget. After all, this is what you and your guests will remember. The ceremony is over in just a few seconds, but the reception and celebrating go on for hours. We listed our 5 top tips for a stylish wedding:

1. Florals & Lighting - A huge part of wedding decor which can literally transform a space. Fresh flowers, candles and lighting add that luxurious touch.
2. Draping - When in doubt drape! I'm a huge advocate for draping because I have seen horrible rooms turn magical when drapes are brought in. We just LOVE drapes!!
3. Venue Budget - If you don't have the money for your dream venue, consider a less expensive venue and add number 2!
4. If you're going to use linens, they MUST hit the floor. Your guests should never see table legs--ever.
5. Chairs - Chair covers are very 1990s...opt for renting chairs instead. There are numerous styles to choose from, Chiavari, ghost, Louis, chameleon, garden style and more. Chair rentals usually start at $6 or chair to $20 or more for certain styles.

Happy Lunar New Year 2023

We're posting this a day early to share a few traditions on how to bring in the lunar new year!!

- Clean your house before midnight!
- Buy food & snacks, decorations, clothes, and fireworks before the 21st!
- Offer sacrifices to the ancestors so that they "eat" first. Offerings are placed in front of a shrine and may include meat, wine, joss sticks and joss paper.
-Enjoy a reunion dinner with all family members and eat dumplings, Nian Gao (sticky rice), and spring rolls.
- Give money in red envelopes to kids.
- Stay up late until midnight only until the firecrackers die down.

Ok so I decided to do a thing. Despite being a social butterfly I am actually very shy. No one believes me when I say that but it's true. But here I am.

I'm Olayinka creator and lead designer for Clique Soirées.

I got my start in events working red carpet premieres, award shows and industry parties while working for a major studio and a few agencies in L.A.

I have walked red carpets, handed Beyonce water backstage before she entered the BET Awards, walked your favorite rappers down the red carpet, been on set of some of your favorite TV shows, joked with the late Charlie Murphy about bad comedians, sat behind Chris Brown and his mom before he was Breezy, and laughed at Tracee Ellis Ross while she cracked jokes in front of me at an awards show. And it was SUPER FUN.

My father was PR guy so I grew up coming home to find a who's who list of people in our living room. Entertaining and parties have always been a part of my life.

Clique has seen the good, the bad, and the fugly but it's all a part of the process. We are embarking on a new journey in the event space to focus on taking the ordinary to extraordinary.
