Good morning friends and family! This is going to be a long post, so for those of you that might not want to read the whole story, I'm putting bullet points at the top...lol.
- We have made the difficult (but best for our family) decision to discontinue Texafied JamFest, and that include's 2024's Tex-Eclipse-afied JamFest and Holistic Faire.
- If you have already rented an RV from Scott Huizenga at Campers4Rent.com for the 2024 event, you have a couple of options - 1. cancel your RV, and Tod and I will cover your cancelation fee of $100, or 2. transfer your reservation to a site Scott has secured for eclipse viewing in nearby Cumby, TX (Exit 110 - where Black Jack liquor store is!). There will be LOTS going on in the area over the weekend - plenty to do and fun to be had, and there might even be a Texafied artist or two around, playing some local shows! 😉
- If you had submitted an application (or were planning to submit an application) to be a holistic vendor, One Soul Yoga Studio will be hosting a handful of events at the studio and maybe even an event or two at Mama's Place. Stay tuned!
- We still have merch available on https://www.texafiedjamfest.com and will have a clearance sale in the near future. The only thing that won't be marked down is the cookbook, as 100% of its sales go to MD Anderson Cancer Center pediatric oncology.
Now for the long, emotional post for those of you that want to know how we came to this decision.
It's the middle of March, more than four months have passed since the last Texafied JamFest, and our family is only just starting to feel like we're recovering financially, emotionally, and physically from the event. It takes A LOT to put on an event like Texafied, and while we've always considered it to be 100% worth it, this last one took a different kind of toll. Many of you know, but I feel that many of you also don't, we had some significant stressors during the event, and I'm talking about things entirely outside the crazy, scary weather. On Friday, just before the storms, our son and his friend rolled our ATV on a county road near our house. He was pinned under it for a bit and tore up his knee and leg (he has fully recovered). His friend was scraped up a bit, and they were both really shaken up. We all felt incredibly lucky that it wasn't worse, since a friend had just recently lost her fiancee in a similar accident.
Next were the waves of tornado warnings, and while we were mostly unscathed here at Mama's Place, it was a little bit terrifying, and several lives were lost just a few miles north of our home, by the very tornado that kept us all huddled in the house together for awhile.
Just after the storms, we received word that Hadlee's boyfriend had been in a horrible car accident and was being taken to a Dallas hospital for his traumatic injuries. Hadlee is one of Lucy's (and Mac's) best friends since birth and she was actually here for much of Texafied. Hadlee's boyfriend was the brother of the friend who’d just lost her fiancée I mentioned above. His name was Dylan, and while he clung to life for a week after the accident, he died the next Friday.
With all of these things going on, but having to stick to our commitment of producing/putting on a music festival and hosting LOTS of folks here at our home, it wasn't until the dust all settled that we were able to even start addressing the heaviness of all that happened. The festival, itself, had nothing to do with all of the difficult events, but we were all exhausted and beaten up pretty badly. It just felt like all too much.
Add to that the financial and physical demands (as Tod says, we're getting too old!)...every time we talked it through as a family, it just seemed like the right thing to do was put Texafied aside and focus our efforts elsewhere. We can use the money we'd normally invest in the festival to support our favorite artists, directly, to give to MD Anderson, directly, and to attend and sponsor other festivals that we love but don't get to go to because of finances set aside for Texafied.
All of this said, we hope that you all understand and know that we love you all so much! We have created a wonderful family, and even though Texafied won't happen, we all know that we will still gather, wherever we can, whenever we can, and we will support each other. Rock By The Sea is just around the corner, and so many of us will be there! Thank you all, from our very souls, for all the love and memories you've helped make with our beloved music festival. LOVE ALWAYS WINS. 💜🎶🤠
