Today on Native American Day, we honor the Santee people, original stewards of the lands that are now Clarendon County. 🌿 Their homelands stretched along the Santee River, where their communities lived off the land, fished the rivers, hunted wildlife, farmed corn, beans, squash, and built sacred mounds that still echo with their legacy.

One of the most powerful reminders of that past is the Santee Indian Mound near Summerton, now part of the Santee National Wildlife Refuge. It’s believed to have served as a ceremonial and burial site, 3500 years old and deeply meaningful.

Let’s take a moment to remember that the beauty of this land, the rivers, the forests, it wasn’t always just ours. It was theirs first. If you know of historic Native sites in Clarendon, or stories from people whose families have Santee heritage, drop them in the comments. Let’s honor their memory by keeping their stories alive.

well that’s a wrap on the 2025 Bassmaster Opens! It wasn’t the year I had hoped for but I know the Lord has ordered every step & whatever He has for me is far better than I could ever imagine… incredibly blessed to live this little life of me. Chased fish all over the country with some of the best in the game, learned, loved, lived, & even leaned into a few. Put a lot of miles on the Toyota USA already this year and hours in the Nitro Boats Bass Pro Shops, needed my BUCK N’ BASS for every single derb, laughed & maybe even cried sometimes, counted a million little miracles (& then some) as I wait on a “big” one. Appreciate A few more weeks on the road then I’m going to chase some deer & ducks and get ready for 2026!! A giant thank you to all of my sponsors, friends, & fam!
