If like me you are unable to attend the Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in Wexford starting this weekend, you can soak up some of the excitement and massive array of talent heading there for the annual cultural feast organized by Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann which enjoys a wonderful media partnership with TG4 (www.tg4.ie) going back to the 2013 Fleadh in Derry. In fact you can sample the four Provincial Fleadhs in Ireland that precede the All-Ireland this Sunday night, August 4 at 9:30 pm Irish Time in one edited show.

Fleadh24 brings you to the heart of this year’s Fleadh Cheoil with four nights of stunning performances and entertainment broadcast live from four stages in the TG4 TV Village located at Crescent Quay in Wexford Town. Presented by Doireann Ní Ghlacáin, Aoife Ní Thuairisg and Peadar Ó Goill, Fleadh24 will broadcast live nightly from 9.30pm on TG4 and across the globe on www.TG4.ie. Join us to experience the finest Irish and international performers, and to discover the brightest new talents emerging from the Fleadh competitions. Each show will feature musicians, singers and dancers, young and old, who have travelled to Wexford for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann from all over Ireland and from the UK, USA, Australia, Singapore, Japan, Finland, Brazil and, Dubai. On Thursday night the headline acts will include Michael Flatley - Matt Molloy & John Carty - Sharon Shannon – Lumiere - The Piper’s Cross Céilí Band - Pádraig Jack - Róisín El Cheriff - New Ross and District Pipe Band.

Friday night sees the following take to the stage Michael McGoldrick Family Band – Ímar – ALDO - The West Ocean String Quarte – InB - Clonroche Traveller Girls - Jack Warnock - Natalie Haas - Sharon Howley - Late for the Train - The Devane Brothers

On Saturday night we will be entertained by Jackie Daly & Matt Cranitch - Maurice Lennon Trio- Garadice with Eleanor Shanley - Dan McCabe - BIIRD featuring Lisa Canny - The Raines - Cumas Trad Band - David Murphy

For the final night on Sunday we have another great mixture of musicians including live performances from Frankie Gavin & De Dannan - Wallis Bird - Bow Brothers - Niall McCabe - Nomos - Tulua - John, Pip & Tanya Murphy - Robert and James Harvey with Ryan Molloy - Nezlamni Ensemble …. and many more.

At this year's Fleadh, the children’s channel’s Cúla4 team, along with presenter Niamh Ní Chróinín, will be roaming the streets of Wexford with a mobile stage on Friday the 9th & Saturday 10th of August from midday giving all a chance to showcase their talents, whether it's playing an instrument, singing, dancing, or any other party piece. These clips will be broadcasting on Cúla4’s social channels.

As we get ready to celebrate 30 years of the Catskills Irish Arts Week here in East Durham, we would like to give a shout out to Mary Lou Philbin and her late husband, the equally charming Corkman who provided such wonderful and important support to our mission of keeping the Tradition alive at the CIAW. Their stock in trade enhanced what we were doing and provided a great variety of records, books and educational material to keep our and their customers busy over the year until we would meet again.
Now it is time for Mary Lou to take it easy and she is offering to pass along the still very valuable inventory that they collected --and at a very reasonable price---for another vendor who could modernize and upgrade the shop online to operate in the 21st Century. Maybe that person could be you.

As I sit here in New Hampshire reading about the excitement in Miltown Malbay this week, and the anticipation of magical happenings in East Durham at the Catskills next week, i am reminded of over 31 years of OSSIAN USA and 21 years of producing concerts for the Between Program and Concern Worldwide with my late husband, Corkman Charlie Clarke.

It is expected that the majority of these festivals and venues from all over North America will be in attendance looking for artists for their upcoming festivals in 2025 and beyond, taking place at the Irish American Heritage Center and The Congress Plaza Hotel & Convention Center.

Culture Ireland will provide travel supports for artists based on the island of Ireland who are selected for this opportunity.

Saddened by the news of the passing of the great Monaghan musician, Mattie Connolly at 84 from Scotstown. He was a dual Hall of Fame musician in the American Irish Musicians HOF and the Comhaltas Mid Atlantic Hall of Fame .

His Daughter Deirdre Connolly shared the news here on Facebook.

On behalf of my mom, my brothers and myself, it is with the greatest sadness that I regretfully share the news of our father’s passing. Our dad, Mattie Connolly, was and always will be an absolute legend. He passed away peacefully last night. He was 84. He was surrounded by his wife of 59 years, his 4 children, 3 daughter-in-laws, 9 grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was so loved by so many❤️ His gift of music will forever be my favorite and we are so grateful that we had him for as long as we did. We could not ask for a better husband, father and grandfather. Rest easy now dad and bask in the love of God, your parents, your brothers Michael and Peter and your countless friends and family that have gone before you. Funeral arrangements to follow.
