Dear Temple Family,
Saturday September 13th is a very important day in our Synagogue life,
and we would love to have you ALL be a part of it.
We have sent out notices about Supper & Selichot . . .
We have been deep into our move trying to get everything ready for
everyone to share in community and enter the Holy Day season
with love and light.
As it has worked with the timing, Saturday the 13th will be an
Open House for everyone to experience the warmth of our new place and, ironically, Selichot. Rarely have we been able to do Selichot on the
actual day, but this year we can.
Selichot are penitential prayers that often are said during the entire
month of Elul leading up to the Holy Days.
The way the calendar falls this year for us, it is recited on the Saturday
about a week and a half before Rosh Hashanah.
The actual Selichot are a collection of verses and poetry where we ask
God to forgive us on a personal and communal level.
We recite the “13 Attributes of Mercy” given to Moses at Sinai, which, at
its core, is key to forgiveness.
Rosh Hashanah, the promise of repentance and God’s divine mercy,
begins with Selichot.
Kabbalistically they are a channel to a higher level of divine
consciousness and blessings. This time lays the foundation for the
year ahead and prepares our soul for the Cheshbon HaNefesh -- the
accounting that we must perform to get the most from what
our Days of Awe can do to elevate our individual and collective lives.
A lot has happened; a lot has changed . . . A new year brings the
promise of new beginnings, and you are all very important to us.
We are appreciative of the faith you have put in us, Emet, and God to
continue on this path together.
We are VERY excited about BOTH of our spaces.
We have been very blessed.
Two challot can be present on Shabbat to signify a double portion of
blessing. We have two incredibly comfortable and welcoming spaces in
which to gather.
One we call “Temple Emet Home” and the other
“Temple Emet Sanctuary." Below is a photo showing part of
our new home.
Two Open houses will take place:
Saturday 9-13 @ 5pm
Selichot, Supper & Shmooze.
We will begin with a light supper (Kugel/ Blintzes, etc.) & Shmooze.
Then, at 6:30pm, Selichot - where we will usher in the Holy Day
season with some readings and music and change our
Torah covers to white.
Friday 9-19 @ 5pm we will have a catered Summer Supper by
Lisa’s Bon Appetit (at our Home) and then head to our “Sanctuary”
for the last Friday service before Rosh Hashanah.
This, too, is a special service with prayers for the month of Elul and
is a continuation of our process of preparing to receive everything
available to us for the coming year: hopefully, abundance in many
forms, for the purpose of sharing.
Please come to the Open Houses - both meals are free as are copies
of our High Holy Day Prayerbooks - and share the joy of moving
forward ~ b’yachad, together!
B’ahavah . . .
L’Shanah Tovah,
Rabbi Didi
