Hi, my name is Somerton. Read my story below. On October 7, 1985, the Central Identification Lab-Hawaii (CILHI, now DPAA) identified the remains of Lieutenant Commander Paul Laurance Worrell, missing from the Vietnam War.Lieutenant Commander Worrell, who joined the U.S. Navy from Pennsylvania, served with Attack Squadron 172, Carrier Air Wing 1, embarked aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42). On December 2, 1966, he piloted an A-4C Skyhawk (bureau number 145116) on an armed reconnaissance mission against enemy surface-to-air missile sites in the vicinity of Con Van, North Vietnam. During the mission, the Skyhawk was shot down and LCDR Worrell was killed. In 1985, the Vietnamese government repatriated remains which were later identified as those of LCDR Worrell.Lieutenant Commander Worrell is memorialized on the Courts of the Missing at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. The Worrells clung to the hope their son was somehow alive for years until his remains eventually were found. Their neighborhood in Somerton, lined with yellow ribbons. Elaine Worrell became a state coordinator for a national POW/MIA group, and personally sold more than 65,000 POW/MIA arm bracelets. She and her husband traveled to Geneva and Paris in the early 1970s to plead for humane treatment and release of prisoners of war. Paul originally purchased the 1964 VW Bug brand new from Pitcairn VW of Philadelphia. Eventually Paul’s sister took possession of the car and promised to keep it preserved in memory of Paul. When his sister could no longer care for the car, she sold it to a man who restored it. Since then, there was only one other owner. So here we are today…when the previous owner mentioned the history behind this car. We just knew had to find away to honor Paul and his family. It took us several months to decide on something that honored it’s history and LCDR Paul Worrell of Somerton, PA🇺🇸
Rosie was certainly rockin’ yesterday 🤟🏻
