When we started ‘Friday night movie night’ a few years ago with Juniper, one of my favorite memories is at the end of EVERY movie, before the credits had finished, she would passionately ask me and mom:

“Who are you going to be?”

Referring to the characters in the movie.

We would carry on (sometimes into the next morning) acting as our respective characters.

Friday night shenanigans is largely inspired by Friday night movie night, and we always encourage dressing up. We figured this time of year it was appropriate to throw a costume party….

Hey all. I had told some people over the summertime that we are doing Friday Night Shenanigans First Fridays starting in October... No Shenanigans tomorrow, but...

We are doing a special Costume Ball in November!!

When I was a kid, I watched some Yogi Bear here and there...

I loved the way Yogi said 'pic-in-ic baskets.'

Summertime Shenanigans!

I am playing tunes for kids (of all ages) on the Arcata plaza this Sunday as a part of the Arcata chamber of commerce summer concert series.

Fun, funny, funky music for dancing of all sorts.

This is kind of like a dream gig… summertime, daytime, free, fun. I would have never imagined I would get to share my favorite tunes on the town square when I first moved here 20 years ago.

I know we’re all very busy, but I would LOVE to see a lot of my friends and aquintences come out and dance, and frolic, and lounge!

11-2pm this Sunday!!!

We went to Flynn creek circus last night. They have their big top tent set up at blue lake casino. Super fun, and impressive acrobatics. They are there for the next 10 days I believe?

Summertime Shenanigans are afoot!

Friday Night Shenanigans will be back at Six Rivers Brewery every First Friday of the month this fall!

In the meantime, while the sun is shining, and the breeze is blowing, why not have some family dance parties outside?!

THIS Saturday, July 20th, I will be playing some tunes at Soot Sprite Farms, as a part of their Kids Art Sale. There will be 28 kids setting up to sell art, and food available, and other fun.

It is a really neat, welcoming space if you have not been there.

12-4PM

Free event, but bring some $$$ to support the youth!

Sunday, August 25th, we are taking over the plaza in Arcata!

I will be playing as a part of the Arcata Chamber of Commerce Sunday Art Market & Concert Series.

Playing music at a couple of fun events this weekend...

Saturday, Ill be playing some tunes at Zak Shea's Open Studio art show.

Anderson Avenue off of School road in Mck.

All day, but I'll be playing music from like 12-3 or so.

His art is really cool, and his garden is a work of art in itself. Come check it out.

Sunday, I will be playing a set at the Fairy festival in Arcata

Today is a special day, because it is the first Friday of the month.

And that means tonight is

FRIDAY NIGHT SHENANIGANS

Six Rivers Brewery

FREE

Music and dancing for kids (of all ages)

we will have a DIY face painting station, art table, parade, and more.

Dress code strictly enforced... Anything goes!!! Dress fancy, or sparkly, or polkadots, or your favorite animal, totally up to you.

This is the last Shenanigans of the season (will be back First Fridays in the fall). Hope to see you there!

Also, I am planning on hosting at least one outdoor shenanigans this summer somewhere... Festivals, events, park, beach... Any specific ideas or connections appreciated.

The art of being a DJ has shifted quite a bit since my humble beginnings. It was an underground culture, based around collecting and sharing records. Pre-mass internet, you kind of had to 'know someone' to break into the culture. Even finding the right gear to purchase was a challenge. Then comes CDJs, napster, limewire, youtube, pandora, Serato, sync, spotify, controllers...

Things have changed a lot!!!

One thing has not changed... The experience of fostering community through music and dancing.

It makes me so happy celebrate with our youth, and help provide a space for them to groove!

Our 4th installment of Friday Night Shenanigans is happening at Six Rivers this evening... Hope to see you there!

P.S. I still like to DJ for Adults sometimes too. I just a booked a wedding this summer. Might do 1 or 2 more if you know anyone still looking... Open to play other fun shows, events and festivals... LMK!

More importantly, CHILL WILL, one of my good DJ friends, is moving back to the bay area at the end of this month. I would LOVE to play one last all-vinyl '80s night with him and some others if we can find a venue and date to do it!

First Friday Shenanigans returns to Six Rivers this week!

Come on down for some fun, silly, uplifting tunes, dancing, face painting, soul train, parade, and all sorts of other antics!

This month is extra special, as we have special guest DJ Myrica (Steffen Allan) sharing some tunes, alongside Juniper's Dad and Moonlanding '76.

When I first moved to Humboldt in 2004, I had dreams of playing music.

My first DJ gig was at a weekly hip hop night that Dub Cowboy was hosting at Six Rivers Brewery. I had met DJ Burnt Reynolds (aka DJ Moonlanding '76) around town, and he invited me to play a set. I remember the excitement leading up to that night.

I was still playing all vinyl at the time... I played some Digable planets, J5, some Sly and George Duke mixed in... FUN!

I attended many shows at 6rivers, and a few years later held one of my first shows as a concert promoter there.

Wow, what a show!

I hosted a few other bands there over the years, and have periodically DJed quite a few happy hours and special events there.

They are celebrating their 20th anniversary next week with events almost every day! Come support this awesome community space!

We are thrilled to be hosting Friday Night Shenanigans with them monthly, and will be there tonight for a celebratory pre-party!!!
