Trivia question: What are the peak months for marrying?

Trivia answer: May through October!

The warmer months are understandably popular times for weddings. However, some couples prefer the special allure of a winter wedding. If you’re one of those, consider that Tahoe holds a special magical quality that makes it a popular destination for weddings, even in the winter!

For one, snow turns Tahoe into a winter wonderland that’s a romantic setting for exchanging I Do’s. Secondly, you and your guests can partake in a plethora of winter activities such as skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing or snowshoeing. Last but not the least, a winter wedding in Tahoe will typically cost less than in the summer months, especially from mid-January through April (just steer clear of the holidays from Christmas to New Year).

What time of the year are you hoping to get married in?

For inspo for your Tahoe wedding--no matter what time of the year--check out our blog at https://tahoeengaged.com.

Eat, drink and be married! Well, we all know that first comes love, then comes the grub. But beyond that, how much time should you allow for dinner? Here are pointers to help you plan your wedding day timeline:

25-30 minutes for appetizer
30-40 minutes for salad
40-50 minutes for entree

Before dinner, allow 15 minutes for guests to get to their seats once they have been invited to dinner. Allow 10 minutes for pouring beverages for any toasts prior to the first course.

Marriage is a journey worth taking! But before you ride off into the sunset to your happily ever after, consider these Limo Rental tips:

1. Call dispatch the day before for the driver’s name and cell phone number so you have a way to communicate with the driver on the day of the wedding, if necessary.

2. Take advantage of unused limousine time. Minimum rental time is usually 3 or 4 hours. After the limo drives the bride and bridesmaids to the church for pre-ceremony photos, perhaps it can turn around and pick up grandma and grandpa from their hotel as well.

3. Deal with a reputable firm. Members of the National Limousine Association require members to have proper licensing and insurance.

For your Tahoe wedding, Reno Tahoe Limousine provides a wide selection of transportation, ranging from stretch limos to luxury buses. Info at https://tahoeengaged.com.

While the traditional Guest Book is nice, you don’t have to do things “by the book” when it comes to guests’ well-wishes! Some cute guest book alternatives:

—A polaroid camera and scrapbook. Guests take a picture of themselves with the camera, attach the photos on a page and write a message next to the photo.

—An attractive album showing off your best engagement photos. Pages have space around, beside or under the photos for guests to write greetings.

—Game pieces. Have guests sign a Jenga piece. Or the backside of a puzzle piece. The puzzle will be your best couple pic.

—A portrait. Enlarge your favorite couple photo and have guests sign the wide mat or frame.

—A plaque. Guests sign a plaque customized with your name and wedding date.

—A date jar. Guests write down date ideas, roll up the message, tie with a ribbon and put in an elegant jar.

What other creative guest book ideas can you think of?

When it comes to Group Photos, say “cheese,” don’t eat cheese! At least not yet.

A common scenario after the ceremony is guests dispersing to cocktails, cheese and crackers, unaware they’re needed for group photos. Search teams are dispatched to fetch family and friends, causing the photos to drag on longer than scheduled.

Here’s what you can do to ensure that your group photos are quick, efficient and picture-perfect:

1. Provide a list of desired group photos. The list should contain the names of all the people in each photo, when they are to be taken and where.

2. Make sure to inform all family members and the wedding party—in advance!—of the time and location of the photo session.

3. Ask a family member or friend to help coordinate the groupings of people on the list.

4. Allow 5 minutes per posed group photo.

Planning ahead will leave you more time to spend with your beloved family… and perhaps even enjoy those hors doeuvres!

Does the thought of planning entertainment for your big day—whether it be a DJ, band or musicians—overwhelm you?

Jeff Leep of Leep Entertainment has four tips for wedding couples who have never bought musical entertainment before. From a bagpiper-and-drummer parade to a Johnny B. Goode electric-guitar recessional, Jeff has provided entertainment to weddings for three decades and draws from his experience.

“The music at your wedding is going to set the flavor,” says Jeff. “It’s one of the things people are going to remember most about the wedding.”

Beef, chicken, fish, or vegetarian? How will the servers know which entrees your guests selected on their RSVP’s? Two words: Place Cards.

Place cards, positioned at each place setting, aren’t just there to help guests find their place at the table—they can also help indicate meal choices in creative ways!

One way to do this is to use different colors to print or write guests’ names (such as red for beef, blue for chicken, green for vegetarian). Another way is to embellish each card with a different design or decoration that corresponds to each entree.

When it comes to wedding flowers, there are things you can do to help your florist ensure that everything will come up roses on your big day!

If you can, supply your floral designer with the following:
1. A picture of your wedding gown and the bridesmaids’ dresses.
2. Fabric swatches from your dress and the bridesmaids’ dresses.
3. Swatches of linens for the tables at the reception.
4. Either a link to your Pinterest or other inspiration boards, or email the images.

“Love is sweet, but we still have to eat,“ according to a sign at a wedding reception. Starting with hors d’oeuvres! How many of these delectable morsels should you serve?

It depends on what kind of reception you are having—a Dinner Reception preceded by cocktails or a purely Cocktail Reception. Here are guidelines:

For cocktails preceding a Dinner Reception: 3-6 hors d’oeuvres per person

For a purely Cocktail Reception:
6-8 per person for a 1-hour reception
9 per person for a 1.5-hour reception
12 per person for a 2-hour reception

The First Look! Do you and your fiancé want to see each other before the ceremony?

Couples who choose not to see each other before the wedding place a high value on the sense of anticipation and excitement that comes with the first sight of each other as the bride walks down the aisle in her gown.

Couples who do see each other before the wedding typically want to get most of their group photos out of the way ahead of time so they can proceed directly to the reception once the ceremony is complete and spend more time with their guests. (Countdown to the Perfect Wedding)

What camp are you on? Either way, the look on your fiancé’s face will be priceless!

No matter how you slice it, the cake cutting ceremony is a highlight of the wedding reception. Performing this iconic ritual is a piece of cake with the following pointers!

When holding the knife, ideally, the groom’s hand would be on the bottom. The bride places her hand on top of the groom’s to show off her sparkly ring for the photos. They feed each other the first slice, then serve the next slices to their parents—the groom to the bride’s parents and the bride to the groom’s parents.

Searching high and low for the perfect centerpiece for your guest tables? It’s high time for the low-down on centerpieces:

Centerpieces should not obstruct guests’ views across the table. They should either be no more than 14 inches high or elevated up high. You can vary the heights of the arrangements—some low, some high—to create greater visual interest.

For topnotch Tahoe florists who can help create the perfect centerpiece for your Tahoe wedding, visit Tahoe Engaged at https://tahoeengaged.com.

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet…” But when it comes to weddings, labeling the right flowers with the right names is essential to avoid confusion.

Ask your florist to label all personal flowers with the first and last names of your wedding attendants. These include the bouquets of the bride and bridesmaids, the boutonnieres of all the men (including the fathers), the mothers’ corsages and the flower girl baskets.

For help with all the floral needs of your Tahoe wedding, go to the superb Tahoe florists at https://tahoeengaged.com. Tahoe Engaged represents the top wedding professionals serving the Tahoe area.

While gorgeous summer weather draws weddings outdoors, it also brings soaring temperatures. At what point does a wedding cake melt?

If the forecast calls for temperatures above 85 degrees, a cake can melt and therefore needs to be in a cool place. In that situation, the cake may need to be transported to the outdoor reception area just before the guests arrive or just before the cake-cutting.

A Tahoe-area source for cakes that are not only exquisite but delicious is cake designer I Do By Deb’s. For info and more sweet tips for your Tahoe wedding, visit https://tahoeengaged.com.

You may want to look like Cinderella on your wedding day, but you wouldn’t want your shoes to feel like glass slippers!

About a month before the wedding, wear your new shoes around the house for several days in a row, to break them in. A Band-Aid on your heel to cover a blister is not the look you are aiming for.

Be sure to use some sandpaper on the soles of your shoes so they are not slippery. You don’t want to fall while walking down the aisle. (Countdown To Your Perfect Wedding)

The Envelope Please! A wedding invitation wardrobe is like a well-put together outfit—stylish, harmonious, with just the right accessories.

But just like a chic ensemble, how you layer the various elements matters!

Contemporary invitations have multiple inserts—the response card, the directions card, perhaps a reception card and more.

To assemble, the invitation is placed on top so that it’s completely visible as soon as it's pulled out of the envelope.

The other inserts follow behind the invitation in order of size.

Sheer Beauty

Shopping for a veil? We lift the veil on two factors that have the greatest effect on your choice: the style of your wedding gown and the shape of your face.

If your gown has lots of detail and ornamentation, select a plain veil that won’t take attention away from the gown. On the other hand, you can select a more elaborate veil if you’re wearing a simpler gown.

To find a veil that best fits your face, look for a style that complements your features. If your face is round and full, pick a veil that drops straight down along the sides of the face, which will make it look narrower. If you have an oblong face, look for a veil that provides some width, perhaps with multiple layers. (Countdown to Your Perfect Wedding)

06/17/2021

A wedding that’s running late can be a hair-raising experience! One of the most frequent causes of scheduling problems is hair and makeup.

Here’s a guide to help you stay on schedule:

For each bridesmaid, allow 60 minutes for up-dos or 45 minutes for regular hairdos.
For the bride, allow 90 minutes for updos or 60 minutes for regular hairdos.

For makeup, allow 45 minutes for each bridesmaid and 60 minutes for the bride.
The bride should go last, and ideally, makeup should follow hair.

When it comes to making yourself look your best for your special day, it’s better to allocate more time than less!

For your Tahoe wedding, Tahoe-based Nancy Rice Artistry can help you with your hair and makeup needs. Visit our website at https://tahoeengaged.com/ for more information.

Nothing adds elegance and polish to a groom’s suit like the finishing touch of a boutonniere. Boutonniere Basics:

Boutonnieres are worn on the left lapel and pinned on the underside so that no part of the pin shows. A groom’s boutonniere may be different from that of the groomsmen and ushers to indicate his position of honor. The groom’s boutonniere should complement the bride’s bouquet.
