Due to the impending tropical storm that will, with a very high probability, impact Union, NJ on the 23rd and 24th of September with heavy rain, wind, flooding and other hazards, coupled with a concern for the safety for our artists, crew, and patrons, we are designating the 2023 Kean University Jazz and Roots Festival a force majeure event — and therefore cancelled.

This decision was determined by evaluating multiple factors, including information provided by the County of Union and several weather resources. In accordance with that decision, we needed to cancel the event.

University President Dr. Lamont Repollet and festival producer Mike Griot are obviously disappointed in this outcome… but feel it is the University’s first priority to assure the safety and well being of its communities.

We hope to see you at next year’s event: hopefully bigger, better … and DRIER!!😎🙏🏽🎶

Kean University, Dr. Lamont Repollet and internationally acclaimed bassist/producer Mike Griot will present the third annual Jazz & Roots Music Festival, a free, public, outdoor music event, at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2023 in Hillside on The Lawn at Enlow Hall. Third World is one of the longest-lived Reggae bands of all time and one of Jamaica's most consistently popular crossover acts among international audiences. Mixing in elements of R&B, funk, pop, and rock and, later on, dancehall and rap, Third World’s style has been described as "reggae-fusion."http://thirdworldband.com. Vibraphonist-composer Stefon Harris is heralded as “one of the most important young artists in jazz (The Los Angeles Times).” He is unquestionably developing what will be a long and extraordinary career.http://stefonharris.com.
