Bye bye, buffets. Hello, individually packaged everything.
Attention venues and couples, I know a lot of you are scratching your heads wondering what's going on with these social-distancing guidelines.
While I don't have all the answers, I did just write a blog post (link in bio) with creative ideas on how to *STILL* have a beautiful, yet socially distant wedding.
It will still be meaningful and memorable. It will just look a little different.
Check out the post and let me know which ones you plan to implement at your wedding(s) this summer!

Controversial post today, but hear me out.
I know some wedding pros (photographers, caterers, etc.) try to help couples with things a wedding planner would normally do, like put together their timeline for them. They even say that's a "value add" for them. Their intentions are good and I appreciate that.
But when a vendor tries to do the job of another's, it's doing a disservice to both them AND the couple.
In our wedding timeline example, a lot will be left out because the photographer (or caterer) isn't the wedding planner.
Yes, they may be *really* organized, but they're not coordinating with the florist, transportation, rentals, and other vendors. There's so much they're missing.
On wedding day, every time the photographer puts their camera down to help with a logistical detail, like cue the band, that’s time away from capturing the moments you want to remember.
When I put together a wedding day timeline, I'm consulting with everyone to ensure all the pieces of the puzzle fit properly and everyone has what they need to do their job well.
I'd love for you to weigh in below.

A wedding is a true example of when the sum is greater than all of its parts.
Each vendor needs all of the other vendors in order for the magic to happen.
As wedding planners, we bring together your vendor team and conduct a carefully orchestrated production that, when done well, looks effortless and seamless.
But it takes a lot of coordinating and planning to create this synergy. It's definitely the OPPOSITE of effortless.
My couples hire me because they want that magic and to *enjoy* both the planning process AND the wedding weekend.
What are you looking forward to the most on your wedding day? If you're a vendor, what excites you the most about the wedding day?

Let's be honest. My hair and makeup do *NOT* look this fresh on your wedding day except when I arrive. But other than that, this photo is very accurate.
In my left hand is your ring box that I just took from the photographer after they took your detail photos with your stationery (also in my hand). I'm bringing them to the best man for safe keeping.
In my right hand are my *COVETED* wedding pocket schedules that were handed out to your wedding party yesterday at the rehearsal and will be distributed to your vendors as they arrive. (I've had photographers joke to me they want my couples to hire me just for those pocket schedules.)
And that big book is my production book. My team and I each have our own and it's full of all your final documents (production schedule, run-of-show, contact lists, seating lists, catering, etc.) Your venue and caterer also receive their own copy.
My heart is very happy when everything is organized and everyone knows their role on the day of your wedding so you literally have not a care in the world.
Inside my apron are my phone, a charger, trash that I find on the floor, and cleaning supplies so everything shines.
Oh, and I also really like denim. But don't worry, I change into something cute before your guests arrive. It's my job to make you look good, right?

If your wedding is this summer, now's the time to be thinking about your wedding cake!!
And even if it's not for a while, you're still going to love this interview with Jen McClure and Molly Hartley from .
Not only are these ladies crazy-talented bakers and artists, but they're also super down-to-earth and candid about what it takes to have a unique and memorable wedding cake.
There are so many options out there! Make sure you give this one a listen.
You'll also get a BTS look (or listen??) at what it sounds like to be in their kitchen.

Custom mini charcuterie boards at cocktail hour FTW!
At Deb and John's wedding this fall, guests enjoyed their personal charcuterie boards that were customized with the couple's initials and wedding date.
They were a great way to prevent the spread of germs and looked so cute!
At the end of the night, they doubled as favors (after we washed them, of course). The guests loved them!

Want to know one of my biggest *pet peeves*? Like something that I find super annoying?
Too big bites during cocktail hour.
I always tell caterers that if I have to take multiple bites of something that’s served at cocktail hour, it’s too big. 😡
I also hate anything that’s served on a stick, bone, 🍗 or fork that leaves with me trash because I hate being left with something in my hand that I have to throw away. It’s not elegant and annoying for guests.
On the positive side, I think one of the trends for 2021 in wedding catering is going to be smaller bites and individual platters for guests to limit sharing and cross-contamination.

You know what makes me *super* happy? A really TIGHT wedding day timeline.
One of the biggest concerns couples bring to me before we start working together is having awkward gaps for their guests during the day?
"What if things don't flow and there are weird transitions from one thing to the next?"
Does this sound like you?
If so, you need to read my blog post "How to Put Together a Smooth Wedding Day Timeline." >>>> https://verveeventco.com/wedding-day-timeline/
A good timeline is put together over months and months. But there are basic things that you need to get started.
One surprise: you should start backwards with your end time or when your reception is going to start, not when you're getting ready.

Complete this sentence: Wedding cake is for _____.
A) Something delicious to eat
B) Something beautiful to design
C) A way for us to show our personalities
D) All of the above
So many of my couples are moving towards smaller mini cakes with lots of personalities. They love being able to design something that's cohesive with their aesthetic but also includes unique and fun flavors that give a nod to their backgrounds or heritage.
I think the trend towards more mini desserts will continue in 2021 and I'm here for it! Mini desserts are always adorable and look great when displayed beautifully, but they also make it easier for guests to sample a variety - when it comes to sweets, I always worry about FOMO.
With couples and caterers being hyper-vigilant about hygiene and cross-contamination, mini desserts and individualized plates of mini desserts are the way to go.

Did you know that 25% of marriages are destination weddings? The pandemic has definitely changed some things and that includes destination weddings. Travel abroad is restricted, guests don’t feel comfortable or safe traveling internationally, or even crossing state lines in some cases.
Whether you’re dreaming of planning a destination wedding somewhere exotic like the Caribbean, or somewhere closer in the U.S. and the majority of your guests have to travel to attend, you’re going to want to listen to today’s episode with Kara Brodhecker from .travel.
Kara has so much knowledge and answers really important questions like . . .

- When should we start planning a destination wedding?
- Who pays for what?
- How many events should we have?
- Do we need a travel agent?

Does anyone else love looking at linen swatches? 🙋‍♀️ For tables, dresses, napkins, I love them all.
When I was getting married, I kept the swatches to my bridesmaid dresses for my memory box because I loved the color so much (they were Cerise. Oh, how styles and trends have changed since 2009).
When you plan your wedding with me, I get as excited (if not more) for all the details of your day as you do. From the big picture to the teeny tiny, I love it all.

We have launched Ask the Planner podcast! I'm so excited for you guys to listen and learn from all the amazing wedding industry experts I've already interviewed and that are going to be on the show.
I'll be sharing some of their insights here on the 'Gram, but you really need to listen to the whole interview for yourself.
Episode 00 is a quickie about the show and where it's going.
In Episode 01, I talk about something I've never really talked about before, and that was the horrible first job I ever had.
I don't talk about it much because it was a dark time that didn't last long, but at the time, it was really rough. It was a toxic environment and I eventually realized I deserved better.
While that time SUCKED, it was the impetus for me starting a career in events, for which I'm incredibly thankful for.

03/12/2020

One of my fave details of this day was the custom capiz shell votive holders (just to the right of the knife). The bride's Tita (aunt) sourced a local provider in the Philippines to make them.
Then the bride's mother hand-carried all 150 of them from the Philippines back to the U.S.
At the end of the evening, the guests took them as favors, along with bouquets made from the centerpieces that the florist re-wrapped.
Guests are still asking if there are any "extra" votive holders a year later. (Nope! I barely got 6 for my dinner table!)
I love weaving tiny buy special details like this into your wedding.

I love how photos capture these special moments in time and serve as a window to the day.
This has to be one of my favorite photos from this day.
So quintessential New York on a brisk late fall day with lots of people walking around and not even noticing a bride and groom on their way to their wedding ceremony in the middle of the street. NBD.
The couple really wanted to take photos on Mulberry Street. It's a quiet one outside the church where they volunteer and they had walked down it many times before.
But this photo will forever change how they see the street again.
New York City, how I miss you. What you once were. What you will inevitably become again one day.

Fun fact: I have the exact same photo from my wedding as my sister even though my wedding took place literally 10 years before her. (This one, to be precise.)
Some wedding photos never age.

Tuesday shoesday!
I realized at my weddings last month I really need to buy some new shoes for wedding day. Like for realz.
If you've seen any of my BTS stories, you see I pack at least 2 sneakers/setup shoes and at least 3 dress shoes of various heel heights. They get progressively lower as the night wears on.
You might have also seen I can walk over 31,000 steps in a day at a wedding. 😱
My favorites are some pointy black flats by . They're shockingly very comfortable!
I'm really intrigued by . Has anyone tried them?
