With all these outdoor weddings, we've got to remember to wipe off those ceremony chairs!
.
If you leave those puppies out too long or set them out too early, they're liable to get bird poop, pollen, or other dirt on them, so make sure you leave time to do a quick wipe down before your guests start arriving!

New full-length episodes of Ask the Planner with interviews from industry experts dropping next month! Watch out for it!

If you enjoy creating and designing your stationery and print materials (hello fun signage!), I highly recommend using a tool like Canva AND working with a professional printer.
.
While I love working with a custom stationer or graphic designer, I understand not everyone has the budget to do so, or sometimes you just need to make a few last-minute pieces to bring it all together.
.
Canva has so many templates that will make your DIY design look like it was created by a professional graphic designer (because they were).
.
I also *HIGHLY* recommend using a professional printer to produce everything.
.
Save yourself the disappointment and headache and work with a professional printer. It probably won't cost that much more and you'll be much happier.

I don't want to be alarmist, or maybe I'm still in a hoarding mentality leftover from the run-on toilet paper and non-perishable food, but 93% of 2020 weddings have postponed to 2021.
.
That means that 2021 will be packed for wedding vendors as 2020 and 2021 couples compete for dates.
.
If there’s a specific wedding pro you’ve been stalking and been excited to work with, reach out to them as soon as possible to check their availability.

It's so strange to work in an industry where your colleagues in other states are following a completely different set of rules. .
.
It's even harder when you feel like you have to police your own friends.
.
I know we in New York all REALLY, REALLY, REALLY miss being able to be part of a big wedding with lots of people, hugging, congregating, etc.
.
And we're going to get there some day.
.
As the host, it's important to give your guests the ability to celebrate with you in a way that feels comfortable and safe for them.
.
You might not know what your guests are going through, how they feel about social-distancing, or whose immune system they worry about compromising.
.
I want you to have a wedding that you love and remember fondly. Your people will be with you - whether it's 15 or 50. And you will love it.

Dilemma: When's the right time to send invitations and save-the-dates when you've got a worldwide pandemic on your hands?
.
If you're considering postponing or changing your plans due to social-distancing guidelines or restrictions, it might not hurt to wait to send those save-the-dates out a little later than usual in order to avoid having to uninvite guests if you have to downsize.
.
If restrictions will have no bearing on your plans - for example, if you plan to move forward regardless and are okay with having it be completely virtual so all guests can attend safely if restrictions change (#loveisntcanceled), then go for it!
.
Everyone's situations are different, so you need to carefully weigh how each scenario will play out and what feels right to you.
.
It's also best to get those email addresses ASAP as you never know how things will change in the future.

Does this guest spark joy?
.
A lot of us have to trim our guest lists these days - and not just for weddings, either.
.
Instead of feeling like you can't have certain people attend your special day, consider the opposite:
.
Which special people do you look forward to seeing as you walk down the aisle and say 'I do'?
.
Whose faces do you want to remember when you go to bed at night?
.
Most likely there will be some key people that you have to have, and many that are "nice to have".
.
You'll get time with those people, too. But for now, don't let a virus stop you from starting this new chapter in your life with the one.

Have you spent hours designing something and then sent it to a printer like Staples (or Kinko's, FedEx, insert generic office supply printer superstore here), only to be thoroughly disappointed with the results? 😱
.
Hi, I'm Desiree and I'm a recovering economical-printer customer, too. Don't get me wrong. 😫
Staples is my office supplies heaven. But wedding stationery printing? I leave that to a real printer. You would be surprised how many shades of red something can print and still be wrong.
.
That's why I love sending stuff to @CatPrint. I also love that they’re based in Rochester, but their business is strictly online so anyone can use them!

What's the over-under of how much you're going to spend over your wedding budget?
.
According to The Knot, 45% of couples spend more on their budget than they originally planned by $7,000.
.
The best way to avoid this kind of budget creep is to have realistic expectations about your wedding budget - and that doesn't mean using a wedding budget calculator you found on Pinterest.
.
FACT: A magical calculator CANNOT predict how much you should spend on your wedding.
.
I don't care how good their algorithm is or whatever they use to calculate your budget. An online calculator can't accurately predict how much you should spend on each item.
.
There's no one-size-fits-all.

I probably don't have to tell you this, but, more than ever, it’s SO important to read your contracts carefully.
.
When you’re in the process of booking a vendor, make sure to look over the cancellation and postponement clauses.
.
Read through the payment schedule and make sure it’s something you’re comfortable with.
.
Understand what's refundable and what's not.

Guys, it's time for some tough love. If you want a wedding planner who will only tell you what they think YOU want to hear, to be your Yes Man, keep scrolling.
.
If you want real, honest advice, thanks for sticking around.
.
As the planner, I'm usually tasked with being the bearer of bad news. But it's better than blowing sunshine and rainbows up your you-know-what.
.
The "new normal" is here. It's been here. Don't put your life and your wedding planning on hold because you're waiting for things to magically get better.
.
Plan for the reality that things might not get better. Things might actually get worse again before they get better.
.
I'm not trying to be a Debbie-downer. I'm actually a very positive and optimistic person.
.
But it would be a disservice to you for me to tell you that your wedding is going to be "COMPLETELY NORMAL" when things are definitely not that right now.
.
So plan as if your wedding was happening this weekend. That should be your plan.
.
Make another plan if things were to get worse - like-this-past-spring-full-on-lockdown-mode-worse.
.
And then make a plan for in case everyone can be together. Depending on when your wedding is, this could be a possibility (thanks to lots of COVID-testing).
.
Want to know how to make these contingency plans? I have a blog post coming up on this, but I go much more in-depth in it in the Wedding Master Planner>>>> https://masterplanner.verveeventco.com/
.
Have a clear, concrete plan to follow so you can say 'I do' so you can retire that #covidwedding hashtag.
