WHat a day to remember and one to build on for next year!
Juneteenth Lima is a program of the Juneteenth Lima Committee in cooperation with the Council for the Arts of Greater Lima.

The current iteration of Juneteenth Lima was launched in 2019 and has grown to a full-day event in Lima's Town Square. Leadership is provided by an executive committee of business and community leaders, supported by dozens of local volunteers from across the Lima community. We will once again join the City of Lima Parks and Recreation Department and other community sponsors to present Juneteenth L
ima 2024, a celebration of community and achievement, a one- day celebration of black achievement in the arts, business, faith, health care, and education. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery. From its Galveston, Texas origin in 1865, the observance of June 19th as the African American Emancipation Day has spread across the United States and beyond. Juneteenth today, celebrates African American freedom and achievement, while encouraging continuous self-development and respect for all cultures. Juneteenth celebrates freedom for all worldwide, promotes unity and builds self-esteem through reflection, education, and through acknowledgement of achievements. This event encourages people of all races, Nationalities, and ethnicities to join together to support and participate in Juneteenth celebrations - a true testament to humanity. Juneteenth serves symbolically, and as a reference point from which to measure and appreciate the progress and contributions made by African Americans to this society. Today, all the descendants of those Africans and indigenous people of color in America have found an enormous responsibility and obligation to remember, renew our efforts and revitalize our spirits. We chose to do so through the organized effort and partnerships of different organizations. We found solidarity and connection in how we celebrate, and it will be showcased through our literary expression and images of the numerous shades of Black in music, education, technology, art, science, and business.
WHat a day to remember and one to build on for next year!

This year the Juneteenth Lima celebration brought amazing weather and a great crowd at Lima's Downtown Square. Together we celebrated the national holiday which, this year, marked 158 years since the end of slavery. The Juneteenth Lima Committee would like to thank our sponsors, visitors, vendors, exhibitors and volunteers for supporting Lima's 2nd annual Juneteenth Celebration at Lima's Downtown Square. Great appreciation also goes out to our Sponsors. This year they were Lima Memorial Health System, Cenovus - Lima Refinery, P&G - Lima Plant, Lighthouse Behavioral Health Solutions, Nutrien, Spallinger Millwright Services, Rhodes State College, Superior Credit Union, CCR Realtors, and Allen County OH Democratic Party. Our event was a huge success and it could not have been so without your participation. Our partnership with the Council for the Arts of Greater Lima, Sigma Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, and the City of Lima Parks and Recreation Department exemplifies what can be accomplished through shared missions with public-nonprofit collaboration. Attendance at the Lima Downtown venue exceeded our expectations and demonstrated that Juneteenth is not about where it is held. Instead, it is far more important to do what is necessary to ensure that this important community event takes place year after year. Support of Juneteenth is a great beginning to understanding our racial history. With love and understanding, we can talk about our problems and seek solutions to benefit all of us. If we continue to come together, we can powerfully impact a better future. Marc Wright, Chairperson Juneteenth Lima Committee
