My husband Bob was on the news today! Today was the unveiling of the mermaid he painted for the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk! 🤩🤩 So proud of him! 💜💜

The last time the mermaid was refreshed and touched up was in 2010 and that was due to normal wear and tear over the years.

This week’s Flower in the Spotlight is the Black-eyed Susan, a beautiful wildflower that blooms along the countryside in the south. 😍😍 I have picked them on the side of the road many times, whenever I am up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia visiting family. This flower is also the state flower of Maryland and has been so since 1918. ✨✨✨

✨The Black-eyed Susan is a symbol of encouragement and motivation. It was named after the Swedish botanist, Olof Redbeck Jr. by Carl Linnaeus. It is easily recognized by its dark brown, almost black center, and its vibrant yellow colored daisy-like petals. Its foliage is hairy and coarse. It is also a favorite of butterflies and bees. 🦋🐝 Some small animals and deer love to eat them as well.

✨These flowers are also ideal for hot, dry climates.

✨The Black-eyed Susan has also been used in herbal medicine. It has been used to heal earaches, using the juice from its roots.

✨They are some of my favorite wildflowers and many florist choose them to use in floral arrangements. ✨✨✨

Thought I would come on this evening and reintroduce myself, especially to new followers! My name is Heather and I am the face behind Beach Girl Floral Designs! I have been married to my husband for 36 years. We have 6 adult children and a cute 5 year old grandson! 💜💜
I have always had a passion for flowers for as long as I can remember and I love to create floral design, with faux and real flowers!

I am also a beach girl and love to see and hear the ocean, collect shells, and love long walks on the beach! 🌞🏖️🌊🐚🐚🐚
I have been creating with flowers since 2020! Most of my business has been focused on faux florals but I still go back to real from time to time.

I also inherited my love of flowers from my mom, who is now deceased, as well as her love for reading.
