The ✹reception reveal✹

It’s not something we see super often, but absolutely LOVE when we do! You’ve spent countless hours (and potentially years) pouring over the colors, styling, details, and more while planning your wedding
why not celebrate it a little during the big day?!

A reception reveal is the PERFECT way to do this. It can take all of 5-10 minutes and is bound to let your photographer & videographer capture some wonderful emotions! Just mention this to your team ahead of the big day, or even first thing in the morning so your planner/photographer/videographer can make sure to perfectly work it into the timeline, and before the space is filled with guests to make sure you get the full effect đŸ€

There can be some unexpected costs (or just things you didn’t mentally prepare for) that can pop up during wedding planning
so here is a list of 10 of those things, so YOU aren’t caught by surprise! đŸ€

1. Thank you cards (for showers AND wedding gifts)
2. Stamps for thank you’s and invitations
3. Guest transportation, if offering
4. Dress alterations (and suit alterations if purchasing, not renting)
5. Wedding rings (we know purchasing rings is so often a given, but the cost can sometimes just be a shock!)
6. Extra lighting/up-lighting
7. Tips and gratuities
8. Vendor meals
9. Extra hours or extra shooter charges
10. Delivery and/or teardown

One big question we hear often, while not necessarily related to planning your wedding, is “what all do I need to include on my wedding invitations?”

Ultimately, what you include on your invitations is whatever is right for YOUR wedding and how much instruction is required for your guests!! But, these are the top items we recommend as wedding planners to ensure your guests are as well-informed as possible đŸ€

Essential:
1. Full names of the couple
2. Wedding date
3. Ceremony start time
4. Venue name(s), city and state
5. RSVP instructions

Optional:
1. Cocktail hour/reception details, especially if at a different location than the ceremonyHeather McCormick Photographynstructions
3. Accommodation specifics
4. Wedding website and/or registry details
5. Dress code

Here are FIVE things that every bride should have prepped for their wedding dress! Some of these may seem sort of obvious to most brides, but seriously, when it comes to those last few weeks of pre-wedding craziness it never hurts to just have a list to triple check!! 😉

1. Have a “dress” rehearsal - make sure you’ve tried on your dress with all accessories (jewelry, shoes, hair accessories, toppers/sleeves, etc.) at least once to make sure you truly love it all together!

2. Pack fashion tape or wig/toupee tape - if you have any qualms about your dress slipping down or have certain spots that you need to stay in place, either fashion tape or something even stronger like wig or toupee tape can be a lifesaver!

3. Emergency kit - make sure your wedding day emergency kit includes safety pins, a small sewing kit, shout wipes or a tide pen, etc. for ANY potential mishaps!

4. Undergarment check - maybe this goes with #1, but I had to give it its own line
make sure you actually try on all undergarments you plan to wear on the big day, with your dress beforehand too! Do a little boogie, make sure nothing moves easily or shows anywhere it shouldn’t, and most importantly is actually comfortable.

5. Take a video of your bustle - if your dress has a bustle, make sure you at least get a video taken of your seamstress doing the bustle and walking through all of the steps. No matter how many points your bustle has, it can be a little confusing, and you want to make sure that whoever will be doing it on the big day doesn’t have to sweat!

Here are 5 different types of guests that it really is okay to keep off your wedding guest list
because sometimes, “it’s okay” is all you need to hear!

Often times, brides and grooms have a very hard time drawing the line at who to invite (or not to invite) in order to hit their ideal guest count, keep consistent “rules” for both sides, and ultimately just ensure they have their dream day.

Well, this wedding planner is here to tell you 5 types of guests that, I promise, it will be okay if you choose to NOT invite to your wedding!

1. Distant relatives
Your friends and more immediately family members likely know you way better than your dad’s second cousin on his mom’s side. Family doesn’t automatically make the guest list! You can rest assured wanting to make sure the friends and family members you ARE close with, take priority.

2. Exes
Is the ex who you “dated” in fifth grade now a best friend, your partner has met them and has no qualms? Go for it! Otherwise, there should be absolutely no need to have an ex at your wedding. Talk about a potentially awkward moment in the making.

3. Coworkers
This can often be a big question mark
but don’t feel bad about keeping work life and personal life, separate. Just because your coworkers are happy for your big day, doesn’t mean you need to invite them.

4. Kids
Not wanting kids at your wedding doesn’t mean you don’t love them - it just might mean you want an adults-only event. Even if you keep it to immediate family’s children only, guarantee that people will understand. And if they don’t, they don’t have to attend!

5. Plus one’s
If friends or family members aren’t seriously dating, my vote is to let the singles mingle. But whatever you decide, just make sure you keep your rule consistent; whether that’s anyone who has been dating for 6+ months is okay to invite, anyone over 18 automatically gets a plus one, or only couples who are engaged or married are included
it is up to you, just make sure you are being considerate of the status of the majority of your guests!

Normalize sharing MORE than just the dress code with your wedding guests, when necessary! If your ceremony, cocktail hour and reception are all fully indoors, this may not be necessary. But otherwise, any out of state guests (or even locals) may need a little more guidance 😊

Not to worry, it’s likely all info you’ve already thought through! Guests appreciate being well-prepared for the elements and location changes, so any additional information you can include on your wedding website or on an insert with your invitations is never too much.

Is your ceremony going to be outdoors during summer in a grassy space, so ladies may want to pick their shoes wisely and all guests may want to dress as lightly as possible (or even pack a little sunscreen and sunglasses)?

Is your cocktail hour a special event in a fancy underground bar space that will be chilly, so guests may want to bring shawls and/or jackets?

Would you like to give your guests a certain color palette to stick to?

Let us know what information you think is most valuable to share with your guests, that others may not be thinking of!! đŸ€

Keeping everyone on track with the timeline following ceremony and cocktail hour can be SUCH a worry for brides! You’re probably starting to get hungry, but the bride, groom and bridal party are tucking away for the grand entrance and really can’t do anything about it

That’s where we step in! Your coordinator will work into your timeline the appropriate time based on your venue layout to make the (temporary) final call to shut down the bar, to ensure guests have plenty of time to get their last drink and make it to their seats. We communicate with the bartenders as well as the DJ to make sure all announcements are made and everyone is on the same page! That way everything is still smooth sailing - no one should still be running around (the bar closing is a GREAT cue, even before the DJ starts announcements), dinner service will be able to stay on schedule and the bridal party can just be prepping their dances without a care in the world 😉

It might seem like a little thing, but a coordinator to keep everyone on schedule and keeping in constant communication with all your vendors is so, so valuable!!

My favorite simple wedding ceremony tips for the bride + groom, that can make a biiiiig difference on the big day đŸ‘‡đŸŒ

1. Walk down the aisle as slowly as possible. I guarantee you’ll be filled with so much adrenaline, that what feels like a snail’s pace to you, will actually be the perfect pace for the occasion!

2. Bouquet at your belly button! Keep the stems tilted towards you, and the florals tilted away. It will keep your hands in the right spot to not cover your dress, but also look perfect for photos.

3. Ask your officiant to step to the side for your first kiss. You’ll (all) be thankful you did for the photos!

4. Kiss again halfway down or at the end of the aisle. This again makes for the sweetest photo op, and your guests will clap up a storm for you two! Ask the hubs to throw in a dip if you’re feeling brave 😉

5. Practice all the above for timing purposes at the rehearsal đŸ‘đŸŒ

Three things you may (or may not!) be thinking of practicing before your big day
and you 100% should! And they’re actually fun, I promise 😉

1. Your first kiss - obviously you want this to be natural, but you also don’t want to feel awkward! Whose hands are going where? How long should you try and hold so you get the first kiss pic, but aren’t making out in front of your families? Is a dip getting thrown in there? Just a few things to consider!

2. Dips - a lot of people do a sweet “dip and kiss” either halfway down the aisle, or at the end
but this is something you NEED to practice! It can be a little tough figuring out which spot to choose, which direction you want to be dipped, where your flowers go, and ultimately just making sure that your hubs knows the plan and we don’t wind up in a “bride down” situation đŸ€Ł

3. First dance - if you’re doing a choreographed dance, obviously your practice will be a little more intense! However, if you’re not, you may still want to practice a little. Do you just want to slow dance the whole time? Is your song a little more upbeat and maybe deserves a few spins or just more lively dancing? Do you want the whole song to play or do you want it to fade out after a certain amount of time?

And brides
like I said, these are FUN things to practice!! Carve out a few minutes a week or two before your wedding and make it into a little date night. I promise, you’ll feel better and even more prepared for the big day afterwords đŸ€đŸ’

A wedding designer giving away her secrets? Say no more! 😉

Tablescapes can be kind of intimidating to fill, especially long ones like these. You also want all of your tables to complement each other, especially when you have long tables as well as round tops, square tables or just additional smaller tables. That said, here are three of my favorite ways to add a little “oomf” to tablescapes!

1. Napkin - It might sound silly or basic, but your napkins can actually add a lot to a table and be very complimentary to the rest of your decor! They come in so many colors, patterns and materials, which is one big thing to think about when picking them out. How you style them, is also another killer way to add some visual interest. They can be a stand alone pyramid tent if you don’t have anything else to go on a plate, they can be an elegant waterfall out from under your charger/place setting, they can act as a pocket for a menu and/or silverware, they can be in a fun, casual knot next to your menu and name card
and that is just a few options!

2. Add Some Height - There are SO many ways to do this, but one of my favs is florals. The vessels and flowers you place on each table, whether that be simple bud vases, loose and colorful centerpieces, or tall stand-out arrangements (I could go on and on!), can add so much color, texture and height to your tables. Another fav of mine is candles. Floating tea lights, fuel cells in fun vessels, beautiful tapers
you name it, candles can do it! They can either be a complimentary neutral or add another fun pop of color, and they also add a little more mood lighting as the night goes on which guests always appreciate.

3. Drinkware - Another one that might sound odd, but can lean in SO well to the vibe of your wedding! Does everyone have elegant champagne flutes and etched floral glasses? Mismatched, colorful goblets with designs in the crystal? Mason jars galore? You name the vibe, your drinkware can do it!

We help our brides plan for all the big and small things
including those small things that can turn into big things! Makes sense, right? đŸ€Ł

Here are three things we usually find brides saying “oh SHOOT I didn’t even think of that!” (plus why they are such valuable things to think of and plan for!!)

1. Marriage License
First off, it is important to apply in the same county you are getting MARRIED in, not just the one you live in! Second, who will be taking the signed license home with them and dropping it off/mailing it back to the courthouse? If either of those things doesn’t happen
eek, you wouldn’t be “officially” married!

2. Wedding Cake
Are you saving the leftover cake/dessert from your cutting ceremony? If so, who will pack it up when you two are done, and who will be responsible for taking it home at the end of the night? You want to make sure this is planned for, so the dessert doesn’t go bad AND so it makes it way back to you two and doesn’t just get thrown out!

3. End of Night Cleanup
Who is everything you made/brought for the wedding going home with? What about cards and gifts? Who is responsible for packing up all of those items? This can be a relatively simple undertaking if it’s planned for, but can turn into such a stressful thing at event strike if it’s not! You just want to make sure anyone who needs to hang around and pack up does, and that you know all your things are in good hands.

23/10/2024

This might ruffle a few feathers, but coming from someone who sees so many wedding days, the emotions through each of them, and cares deeply for brides
brides, please save this for when you are choosing your bridal party! đŸ«¶đŸ»

If you are only choosing to have a friend in your bridal party because you are afraid they might be upset if they’re not
they shouldn’t be in your bridal party.

Secure friendships and mature people don’t need a special “title” in order to know their importance to you! Sometimes brides have lots of sisters and/or other family members they need to include, end up with a certain sized bridal party and can’t include all of their good friends, or even forgo a wedding party altogether. Not to mention, as the bride, you want to be surrounded by kind, loving and supportive friends who will ultimately put you first and protect your peace throughout the day.

Drama is the last thing you want or need on your big day, so this is my wisdom for brides
if you think someone might cause drama by not being included, they are even more likely to still cause drama as a member of your bridal party. And I do NOT want that for you!

Moral of the story
get you a solid girl squad like Kennedy’s đŸ„čđŸ€đŸ’

17/10/2024

You’ll want to save this one for later! 😉

To this wedding planning team, here are the Top 10 moments you’ll want to have chosen specific music for on your big day!!

1. Bridal party processional - this song is usually sweet, romantic, and a bit of a “prelude” to the big moment coming up!
2. Bridal processional - the song you and your escort(s) walk down the aisle to is always a special one đŸ«¶đŸ»
3. Announcement & recessional - after you two are married (!!!!) you’ll want something sweet or spicy for everyone to walk back down the aisle to. This can either be something gentle and instrumental, or a bit of a “hey we’re about to get the party started now” song (think Forever by Chris Brown playing at Jim and Pam’s wedding in The Office!)
4. Cocktail hour - you’ll want to at least give the DJ some sort of direction here on the music you want them to play and the vibes you want to lean into! Usually this vibe will flow into the dinner music, as well. Country pop, instrumental/Vitamin String Quartet, moody Michael Buble?
5. Bridal party entrances - whether you’re doing one song for the full bridal party or splitting it up between a guys entrance and a girls entrance, this is always a fun song to choose!
6. Cake cutting - it will usually be a super short snippet because the cake cutting is so brief, but still a fun one to select.
7. First dance - THIS is a big one! Don’t freak yourselves out about it, but just be sure to choose something both you and your partner love and will be comfortable dancing to.
8. Parent dances - mother of the groom & father of the bride songs are always so sweet. Always feel free to ask your DJ to not play more than maybe a minute/minute and a half of the song and then fade it out, so you don’t feel like you guys are out there forever!
9. Specialty dances or moments - if you’re doing a bouquet toss, garter toss, anniversary dance, any of those things, you may want to select songs for those!
10. Last dance of the night - everyone will undoubtedly swarm the dance floor to get down to that last song. Make it a fun one!!
