It’s all in the details. 🌸 I like to start drawing about an hour before the event starts. This way I can capture beautiful “still life” scenes of the decor, and venue views, and special details before I turn my attention to the story that comes alive when your guests arrive. Drawn in the time it takes you to walk down the aisle. This is one of my favorite live wedding illustration challenges - to draw the couple’s walk down the aisle together. I think the way a couple walks out together says everything about who they are as a couple. In this case, they pretty much skipped down the aisle with loving glee✨❤️ and that pretty much sums up these two wonderful humans I was so lucky to celebrate with. 💍 Getting married or know someone who is? My cousin was supposed to get married in a gorgeous silk dress, surrounded by friends and family in a beautiful lodge in upstate New York. We were going to drive up and spend the long holiday weekend hanging by the fireside, drinking lots of good wine and celebrating together. And then ... the world had other plans. In March things started to close down and my cousin and her hubby-to-be could see the writing on the wall for their Memorial Day Weekend wedding. So, on a chilly day in March, my cousin and her (now) husband drove back to her childhood home in Long Island and were married on the lawn of a justice of the peace (who also happened to be her neighbor). The Justice stood inside the screen door of his porch and pronounced them husband and wife while a handful of neighbors and close family looked on (while standing six feet apart, of course). Someone made a bouquet out of the daffodils which had only just popped up to greet the spring. My aunt took a few fuzzy pictures on her phone - of them signing the marriage license on the back of a parked car, of the Justice of the Peace signing his part at his kitchen table, and of course, of the triumphant bride and groom marching down the aisle ... errr … sidewalk. It was nothing like what they had planned, but they were married! I had planned to give my cousin a live-illustration from her wedding day as my gift, but changing times meant changing plans… so I zoomed in on those grainy photos and tried to work a little Drawn on Your Day magic. A few weeks after their impromptu wedding, I mailed a box full of drawings to my cousin and her husband. It was mid-April by this point and we were still deep in quarantine isolation, but I felt a little closer to them both after having spent a few hours trying to turn their special day into works of art. Though 2020 wedding plans are changing, this is a little reminder that love conquers all — and if you know anyone who's walking down the aisle, or the sidewalk or the front porch steps — I’m offering Drawn On Your Day services via Zoom and from photos. Just before they were announced as Mr. and Mrs. for the first time I drew a sweet private moment between this beautiful couple.
