Another concert for the books! We are so pleased and grateful to have performed our second rendition of our Mermaid Melodies with ! Thank you so much Redivivus Opera for hosting us! It’s been almost a year in the works but we made it happen! Thank you for hosting us! Look how gorgeous this Church is! We had to take a stylized photo featuring the stained glass. Hope to perform with you all again!

🦈Q is for Qqaaxhadajaat🦈

This poem was inspired by Qqaaxhadajaat (Dogfish Woman) who is the founder of the Dogfish Lineage among the Haida peoples of the northwest Pacific coast of Canada.

Mermay Day 18: Qqaaxhadajaat or Dogfish Woman .
Another illustration for and my book M is for Mermaid. The Qqaaxhadajaat is a supernatural being from the folklore of the Haida people. She is a dogfish (small shark) woman, and from the dogfish she derives her powers. Originally she was human, but she was whisked away to the land of the dogfish after making fun of one them. The dogfish turned out to be people that could shape change. Her family searched for her everywhere but she was not seen until several years later, when she had grown fins on her limbs and head.

I took inspiration from the art and fashion to create this image. I love learning about new art styles. Haida art is incredibly impactful and I loved this challenge.
