L here- Let’s talk about pregnancy in the work force.
Dang, I had no idea how exhausting growing a child would be… Don’t get me wrong I’m super thankful for this journey, but you can still be thankful & find yourself filled with emotion both good & bad about all the things you’re going through.
Emotionally - I started a new job with, , in July & interviewing for multiple jobs while being 5 months pregnant at the time was confusing and challenging. Not to mention the morning sickness while trying to present my best self.
I was excited to share such a fun new adventure with my potential employer but was also terrified. I was constantly questioning when I share the information without being passed over. I found myself reassuring potential employers that this would make me work harder than ever. Looking back, yes it was great to say that, but I shouldn’t of felt I had to defend myself by growing a human. Thankfully I found a new work home that embraced it & is super excited for us.
Physically - Damn! What a rollercoaster. Exhaustion, back pain, & nausea are all the fun side of effects of making this little boy. It’s incredible what your body just knows what to do to protect & grow the human inside of you but it is not a easy feat. I’m so fortunate that body can create such an amazing thing, but yes I’m tired.
Mentally - Pregnancy 🧠 is a real thing & I find myself lost mid sentence at times of what I was going to say but I just collect my thoughts and start over and have made adjustments with organization to stay on top of things.
Long story short… I’ve been working harder and smarter more than I have ever have. Feeling as if I’m working double just to prepare to support this tiny human that will be joining us in November.
Pregnancy should not be be looked down on, it should be celebrated. 👏🏻 With that said, if you ever interview a pregnant woman, HIRE HER, she’ll work harder for you than you realize.
And hopefully this reminds you to cheer on your pregnant teammate. They are truly the bad asses on the team- you have no idea what they are going through that day & they continue to show up as their best self.
